ripping dvds

I just wanted to ask what the best(preferably free) dvd ripping software is. I have a 2gb card which should be able to hold a couple, right? I just got my ipaq about a month ago and am still exploring things. Thanks!

It depends on how easy (or hard) you want the process to be. Ripping films (movies) for your device can be done for free using a combination of free software but can be esoteric of the unwary!

There are some commercial applications that simplify the process: I use DVD2PPC. You can try the free version from the link.

However, Aximsite has a good tutorial by Crash613, you can see it via this link. Give it a look and Google the software.

Obviously, the quality of the rip will determine how much footage you will get on a 2GB card, but 4 full-length movies is certainly achievable at the lower quality end.

By the way, with a little research, I found a great little program called Handbrake which is ported to Mac, Linux, and Windows and it lets you pick how big you want the output file. I put an entire movie at fairly good quality at 350MB! I would recommend the program to any and everyone!
