Howdy all,
I've just treated myself to an IPaq rx3715 and as delighted as I am with it, I've come across some teething issues configuring the GPS that the seller supplied with Windows Mobile. In order for software to communicate with the GPS it is necessary to configure the 'Outbound COM Port' as 8, but the Wid/Broadcom implentation on the device does not allow me to set such an option. I know that other IPaq's do, but mine doesn't. Although I can get the stack to pair and connect to the device, it is not recognised by TomTom. I've tried connecting with other GPS apps, all to no success.
At this stage I felt it neccessary to delve a bit deeper. My friend has an earlier model and has confirmed that the COM Port can be altered as the User Guide suggests. If he can do it, then surely my shiny new purchase can!
I found an article via Google that suggested
Registry Editing was the way forward. This being an aspect of Windows I am somewhat familiar with I decided to have a crack. I changed a couple of registry keys:-
[HKLM\Software\Widcomm\BtConfig\Applications\0001]
"ComPort"=DWord:8
[HKLM\Software\Widcomm\BtConfig\Services\0001]
"ComPortNumber"=DWord:6
This appears to have had the effect of switching the input/output ports around, thus allowing me to set the output port as per the GPS User Manual. Though this appeared to have helped, TomTom still won't connect and I've tried every option possible that it allows.
There are two apps that I have seen for Windows Mobile 2003 that allow serial port management, 'VSPD' and 'Serial Splitter Mobile'. Though I have managed to obtain a copy of serial splitter, I have been unable to locate a keygen/crack. I can therefore only disable one port, rather then remove them and reconfigure as the
homepage suggests is possible. I am reluctant to purchase the software without knowing that it will address my issue.
I have hunted high and low for a solution to my problem. I am sure that I am not the only person that has encountered this problem with the rx3715. I have read about patches that might assist, but only for TomTom 3. Has anyone used such a patch and if so is it worth obtaining a copy of this older version?
