Crazy RX 3715 Issues/Language Issues/Multiple Resets

Hi Forum Dwellers,

So this morning my new 2nd hand RX3715 stopped working altogether. 1st it got stuck at the end of the loading bar of 'soft reset mode'. I reset maybe 5 times before phase 2 started.

Next, it changed to another mode...no loading bar...I don't know what this mode is called (maybe bootloader mode?). After some intuition followed by reading on this site I decided to try RICOUK's method to restore my ROM.

Problem is that no language or image version info is present when i try to update the image. Connection problems frequently arise too. I can't make it past the message telling me my device is not the right version. I followed the instructions to the T but to no avail.

On my IPAQ screen it just says "0.48-0.66-A" at the top...nothing else other than HP logo.

The guy I bought it from told me he got it in the UK new...so I've assumed it's an English device but it has no language info whatsoever.

Anybody got any ideas?...I'm stumped...completely...In Korea...without much recourse for repair at my disposal...and desperately missing my mp3s and korean/english dictionary... :(

Cheers,
Luke.

Greetings elyodekul ! Welcome to the MobilitySite Forums!

Are you attempting to load a HP sanctioned ROM image in the same language that your iPAQ came equiped with?

Language

Yes. But I don't know what the original language was. I assumed it was English but now I think it may have been converted at time of purchase.

were you trying to boot it with a low battery (and discharged backup batt)? Try that a few times and it will be unhappy.

If I'm handed a flakey Ipaq, especially a RX series, the first thing I do is put it on the OEM plug wall charger (not usb/sync) for at least 30 mins before i start trying to see whats up. Sometimes I've had to charge the RX batteries outside the unit in the HP stand alone charger, pop them in for a few mins, while the backup batt charges up, then I can boot just fine. If you keep trying to boot with a low backup batt, they seem to corrupt.

Dont know if thats your issue, just an observation. I might have a RX3715 mobo if you need one.

I think the battery may have discharged because it was in white screen mode for about 10 hours while i tried to fix it.

The unit has been connected to the wall charger for over 6 hours and still seems to be dead. The unit will not enter white screen mode now.

I don't have a stand alone unit for charging so I have to rely on wall power or USB. Do you think that it would make a difference if I charged it that way?

If I remove the Li-Ion battery from the unit while it is connected to the wall charger will that charge the backup battery?

What is an RX3715 mobo?

Thanks for the advice people...

Left the battery out overnight...managed to get the white screen back and the rx3715 is sitting in the cradle with wall power linked up too. Back to square one!

Windows recognises a connection but then gives me a message that the device has malfunctioned and cannot recognise it...

I think it's really dead...very close to giving up completely.

I've read everything I can find on the forum and have no way to get past this anyone got an idea at all?

I found this thread.

http://www.mobilitysite.com/forums/i...t=white+screen

Exactly my problem...many useful pieces of info there...

Now it's all about the power. Today I checked the unit and it would go into engineer mode - don't know why. I deleted Active Sync from my PC's system and next thing you know I was connected and flashing the rom using rom updater. All done successfully (suprised!)...then...it all stopped. The unit lost all power and it will not turn back on...I've left the battery out, put it back in, charged it - what else can I do...? Is it even charging from the wall unit? there's no indicator to suggest that...

What do I need to know about the power situation? Is there some vital info I've missed? I thought i was cooking when the image updated...then kaput...I'm playing the 2 steps forward - 1 step back game...
