iPod Classic lost everything
Hi all,

I was given a shiny new 80GB iPod classic for Christmas, and have been pretty happy with it, all in all. Until this morning.

It's been running flawlessly, and I use it a lot; so I plugged it in to charge last night and I ejected and unplugged it this morning. Lo and behold, even though the space left on the device was correct, it reported there was no music, no video, no podcasts.. no anything on it at all!

I reset it several times and tried looking at it through iTunes, but without luck. I'm guessing that somehow the database may have been corrupted or something, but I don't know much about the iPods technically.

How often has something like this happened to other owners? Am I screwed here? Do I need to reset it to factory defaults and reload EVERYTHING again? For what it's worth, it's firmware is completely up to date (v1.1). Help!

Happened to me once on my iPod 8GB. Don't really know why either. I just reset the iPod, and set-up a new profile and sync'd away.
No more problems since then (about 4 months now).

Wish I could help you with what went wrong!

I believe you are correct in saying that the database is corrupted. The database is stored in a folder called iTunes_Control, I believe. Best thing to do is just restore it; doesn't take too long on one of the classics.
