why the hell would they underclock the CPU that makes no sense, doesnt it have the same amount of operating time as the iphone minus the talking??? especially with the SDK games will be made, i wish there was a way where it can go back to its default high speed 620

No, the iPhone CPU is underclocked as well, to conserve battery life. A faster CPU is not needed anyway.

The iPod Touch battery is also much smaller (my iPhone actually gets better life than my friend's touch)

It is possible that demanding apps and games will be able to push CPU to its full capacity. Keep in mind that even that 620 MHZ spec is only speculation. Apple has not announced what CPU it uses.

I can, however, confirm that it runs at 410 MHZ, but I cannot confirm what it is designed for.

im really hoping somebody comes with an app for it because of course Apple wouldnt want to take the touch to its full potential and etc, like the thrid party apps on installer, those developers are taking the device to its fullest while Apple is way behind and just starting to build apps

Unfortunately, the way the SDK is designed, Apple will not allow anybody to change that. Any modification will come from Apple and corporate partners. That, however, is possible.

I'm thinking of picking up one of the Touch's in the next month or so, I'll have to keep an eye on it.
