I have heard from a few people who bought refurbs from Apple that they were not only reliable, but great deals, and get the same warranty coverage, are eligible for Apple Care extended warranties, etc. I'm not so sure about refurbs sold by a third party, though.

I'd check out the Apple Store's refurbished link (which, right now, has the same deal) rather than go through the link you provided (which is probably some sort of ad link referral or something.)

I honestly would not bother with a refurbished unit. The only reason they look like a nice deal is because the brand new one is overpriced. If you have to, just get it directly from Apple.

Apply Refurb

Hello. I would recommend going for the new iPod for the extra $40. It is not a huge amount if you are already going to be spending over $200 to just up it a bit. My cousin once bought a older version of the iPod as a refurbished iPod and within a few weeks it stopped working. He took it back to BestBuy (who was selling it although Apple did refurbish it) and he ended up getting it replaced with a brand new iPod. So, you can take your chances that you will get a good refurb, or get a bad one and get it replaced with a new iPod, or end up having to go through the run around if something happens to try and get it fixed.

So, truth be told, refurbished iPods are not that bad, I just know someone who had a bad experience with it. As long as you get a warranty you should be fine though.

i have heard that referb is the way to go, as they are actually individually tested to ensure they work... a NEW one is not. it goes right off the factory line into the box etc....

So with that logic, you could say a referb is better than new as it has physically been tested by an apple staff person.

I have only bought one referb and it was directly from Apple (the only way to go IMHO) and it looks and runs like it is new

What does refurbished mean anyway. Is it any unit returned to the manufacturer / vendor, even if it's never used? Sorry for the "silly question".

I don't mind change as long as I'm not around when it happens.
