Looks like I could have posted this in 'WiFi Talk' or 'Portable Media' so lets start here!!!
Here’s my scenario…
I have a Windows 2000 laptop with Windows Media Player 9. I'm unable to install any software on this machine – long story, but trust me, installing non standard app is a big no-no...

-me!! .
The laptop is WiFi enabled and network configured on a domain. Laptop will connect to my WiFi router (access internet etc). IP range 192.168.2.xxx
I also have XP Home Desktop, which I wish to use as a media server. This machine is also WiFi enabled and networked on a workgroup at home. IP range 192.168.2.xxx
Desktop has video and audio files together with all my photo’s. As you can guess, I wish to stream these on my laptop whilst I'm at home. Access is not required via internet (ie ORB etc).
Desktop shared drive not seen by laptop as they are different workgeoups / domains. I could change the domain name on the laptop – bad news – I need domain admin rights to reset - been there done that - and failed!!
I could try replicating my work domain on my home network – yeah and risk my laptop domain “going AWOL” again.
I’ve tried setting up FTP server on desktop – works but cannot get WM9 to stream, or add to library. Closest I get is downloading each file and playing separately.
I’ve also tried Windows Media Connect – laptop not seen as a device.
I’ve tried ORB – works but seems to me to be a sledgehammer to crack nut. Also do I really have to send my files twice around the earth when they’re located on a hard drive 2 floors above me?

This is driving me nuts. There must be an easy way… so any (clean

) advice welcome… PLEASE…
