Charge by USB
When i was in the 5th grade, dad bought me a laptop, and i messed up the ac port on it, and had to get it fixed. it was bad. i got a new latptop and am afraid of doing the same thing.... i am really careful with it, but i was woondering two things.

1. are my fears ufounded. are laptops more sturdy than they were 7 years ago?

2. can i charge it some other way? USb, ethernet, firewire, expresscard slot, etc... thx guys

(ooo and where can i find an inexpensive 2nd laptop battery. mine lasts only 1 and a half hours.... (while playing a game on low brightness)

depends on manufacturer, and typically yes they are better.

laptop power only via battery or ac adapter or docking station... you can't supply enough voltage/current through a port.

batteries only are warranted for 1 year and they wear out easily, buy a few spares and rotate them, google is your friend.

I think you will find that the new laptops out there today are significantly better ... at least that is my experience with three new laptops in the past 5 years (wife, son and me).

Currently I am using a tablet and have two batteries. One is always in a charger so for me, I generally just switch them out ... for me, that is just a convenience.

Most laptops only have about a 1.5-2 hour battery (depending on usage).
My one year old laptop serves me well for about 1 hour....a little more if only using Excel/Word/etc....
