Toshiba DVD-Burner problem
I have a Toshiba M45-S355 with DVD-RAM and MultiDrive Burner, but I have been having a lot of problems with it. It burns fine but does not burn any faster than 2x even though DVD-R is 8x certified and my speed is supposed to be 4x. Same goes with CD-R, I think it is supposed to burn at very high speeds, but it only burns at about 8x no matter which software I use.

I read about this at many forums, and noone seems to know the reason, Toshiba requested that I take my laptop to one of the "certified" techs and leave it there. I wouldn't do that, with all the personal stuff I have there. I asked them to send drive to me, I would swap and send it back to them, they said they don't do that.

I wish I got a DELL or HP, who does send the part whenever it is under warranty, and let you do the work at your own risk.

Have you tried updating the optical firmware? Maybe that would resolve your problems without new hardware. Check Toshiba or the DVD drive manufacturer's site for the latest drivers. Good luck!

Hi,

I had a the same problem with my laptop, it is different than yours but the problem was similar. Recently a friend of mine referred me to a great tech support site with free live support and they helped me fix it.

Here is the page for Toshiba Satellite M45-S355

I hope this will help you

Grace

That's a great site. Did not have my specific problem, but looks like they got a lot of stuff over there.
Thanks.
