Recover Files from dead computer

My laptop died and i did not back it up (go ahead rip on me). I believe the hard drive is still intact but there is no power in the laptop even while plugged in. I was told it would cost $300 to get my whole laptop working again but I might as well buy a new one, since it is old, if I could recover my files.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Cooper

goto your local big computer/electronics store and buy an external USB drive housing for laptop sized drives... about $20-$40.

pull the HD out of your laptop and put in the housing

connect it to another PC via the USB

there are also REALLY inexpensive 2.5 to 3.5 adapter

Newegg.com - KINAMAX ADP-IDE23 Laptop 2.5" to Desktop 3.5" IDE Hard Drive Adapter Converter - Adapters & Gender Changers

from your description, it sounds like your drive should be ok, just the power supply/mother board is toast

I've used this very converter and saved more than one account executive's bacon.
