My Dell Latitude D420 stopped taking a charge about 6 months ago but was still usable when plugged in with the standard Dell charger. I went on a trip and forgot the Dell charger and picked up a universal Targus charger that worked with a multitude of laptops. To my surprise the battery now is charging. WTF? I was going to return the overpriced Targus charger when I got home but how can I now? It works when the Dell charger stopped. WHY???

Three words: Never trust Dell...

I have an really old Inspiron 4150 or something like that. The charger broke after 3 months of usage.

I've had 4 Dell laptops and found their batteries to be long lasting. Of course, I've never had one longer than 2 years. Company buys mine with the upgraded battery too. I only wish I had the secondary battery installed. This one lasts about 4 - 5 hours, which is good. But, there are times I'd like to use it for 8 - 10 hours without A/C.
