1800 mAh rapidly degrading
Cheerio..

I bought one of the HLI-X50ML batteries for my X51v back in Dec '05. At first I was getting a good 3.5+ hours of steady usage (auto CPU speed, half brightness, WLAN/BT on). Over the past few months I've notice the runtime on this battery decline. Now I'm only getting about 2 hours out of it (about the same as my stock Dell battery) and it seems to be continuing to decline.

Has anybody else seen deterioration like this? Is it normal for this battery?

Thanks,

John

Discharge the battery to zero % and recharge. See if it helps.

Thanks for the advice, Frenchy.

I've fully discharged the battery several times, both intentionally and just from usage.

I haven't noticed any problems with mine and I use it several hours per day, every day. I've had mine for about 1 year.

John,

Go to our web site on the Contact Us page and email the tech support department about this. Give them your order number or invoice number and they will take care of it for you. It is still under warranty.

Oh, well...

They don't allow returns via any other carrier except USPS.

Now I need to decide if a $48 battery is worth schlepping to the post office and standing on line. I'm leaning towards not...

They were VERY speedy with their tech support response, however.

Battery Drain
I to started having the same problem with my 1800 mah battery that I bought about 1 year ago. It is down to less capacity then the standard Dell battery. I bet it is out of warranty plus I no longer have the receipt . Oh well I guess I will just have to buy another as the standard battery doesn't last me a day and the 2200 is physically to big.

The only thing I've noticed about my battery is that the monitor doesn't show remaining time right. i.e. it show like 57 minutes & under settings/power it's at 77% - which I'm sure is several hours.

My 1800mah are also rapidly losing charge
I bought two mugen power 1800mAh HLI-X50ML batteries back in Aug/05 and they both are recently losing charge very rapidly as well. I'm not sure how long these batteries usually last but my stock 1100mAh dell battery is fine after 3 years and now holds a longer charge then the 1800mAh.

I tried discharging 100% and recharging back to 100% but no luck, wondering if there is anything else i can try to bring these batteries back to life?

Voodoo3,

Li-Ion batteries can last about 300-400 cycles. If you have been charging the batteries every day, then you can count that the battery will last 300-400 days. If you do it every second day, then it doubles the lifespan. As you have had the batteries over 2-1/2 years, I would say that the batteries have reached their maximum usage and will need to be replaced. Your standard sized battery may not have had the charge cycles as high as the 1800mAh batteries and that is why it is still performing well. However, even with regular discharge I would expect that your standard battery will reach it life expectancy very soon as well.

If you need more information about Li-Ion batteries, please visit: Welcome to Battery University

MEF38,

What ultimately happens to the batteries? Do they finally fail to hold any charge at all?

thanks

Pretty much. You'll see that the usage time is getting shorter (sooner) and then they just wont charge at all.
