Sandisk RescuePro

With all of the issues we have all had over time with Sandisk SD cards, I wish I had had this information to post on the Front Page sooner. Sandisk has a recovery program available to help recover seemingly lost files from thumb drives, flash memory cards and even MP3 players. The software is Sandisk RescuePro and can be downloaded here. There is a trial available that will let you see if there are files that are recoverable, but in order to recover the files you need to purchase the software.

This is an article from the Detroit News from last month highlighting the capabilities of RescuePro. There is also a brief mention in this thread about using the software by bigdave240.

This kind of news is better late than never! :approve:

Thanks to PPCSG for the tip!

How does it do this with a PDA?

How timely. I lost a file on my SD disk and want to recover it.

Problem is, does this work "throught" the PDA in the cable or only on a reader in the USB port?

What are the limitations of the demo as it says it's fully supported

It's a nice find, but I think it's rather crappy of SanDisk to make you pay for a product that helps fix potential problems in some of their products.

They should offer it free when you buy a memory card.

Can this software recover chunks of memory that are not being used for file storage on the card, but rather appear fragmented by remains of deleted files? My SD card from time to time needs to be re-formatted to recover the lost space.

It should be pointed out that this software is ridiculously expensive.

edit: Seems they have added a single machine license that is much cheaper. I looked at this before and there was no single machine price. It will work with other manufacturer cards and drives. And from my experience this is the only program that comes close to fully recovering a sandisk product. Other recovery programs don't work so well with sandisk products.

I was about to say the same thing, I guess that is why I have stayed away from their cards.

Very good point. Not the best way to treat a customer.

got it, it is expensive as hell. It didn't find the files that had been accidentially erased. $40 down the drain.

SD cards are very defective? I´m buying my x50v (hopefully it will arrive this today or tomorrow) and was thinking about buying a 1gb sandisk. But with all your complains should I think it twice?

By the way, jpmarth, very cool display pic.

You should bear in mind that SanDisk is one of the best-selling brands. More cards sold = more complaints / problems. Many of us have had no problems with SanDisk (surfing Aximsite can also sometimes give the impression that every Axim is faulty!!)

See the Storage Card Forum for reviews / recommendations on SD vs CF, and different manufacturers.
