Are you tired of buying new Accessories everytime you change your PDA?

When I bought my first Axim X30H, I probably spent more money in accessories than what I paid for the Axim itself. A few months later trying to keep up with the new Axim model I sold my X30H with all its accessories and purchased the latest model an X50V. This put me back to square one on the accessories side. Would it be nice and money saving to be able to use most of them with your new device? Wait no more this is possible. Gomadic has recently released a great new product line of high quality and upgradeable accessories for over 500 different types of mobile devices. Find more here

Gomadic's TipExchange Technology is an innovative new cabling system designed to add additional flexibility to select accessories. TipExchange uses removable connector "tips" that can be exchanged or interchanged based on a users unique and changing device requirements. Each connector tips snap securely into place at the end of the cable and can not accidentally be removed. Additional cable tips for over 500 different models of PDAs, mobile phones, mp3 players and other devices are currently available and will continue to grow as more devices are released to market.

Thanks for the informative link. I'll check it out.

BTW, no offense, but I think you meant to say you spent more money in accessories THAN what you paid for the Axim itself. Not THEN.

Cheers,

Kevin

This is a great idea! I'm surprised it took so long to come about, but I'm glad it did. I always purchase a travel charge kit for my PPCs.

same here - my purchases for accessories (as well as softwares) usually exceed the device itself...

Most of my accessories dont need that anywayz...

I made my own battery pack (4 AA rechargables), I have a CF wifi card, and a CF bluetooth card....

Also, I should be getting a new k/b soon...
So if I upgrade, I shouldnt need the BT / wifi cards, and if I do, I would only get a pda with CF + SD anywayz.

And the keyboard is IR...
Ill just make a new battery pack...

So this doesnt seem to usefull... its only usb cables and charges its used for...

Sounds good, but I'd still like to see the day when all of our connections are wireless, including charging:

What a great idea. I recently visited an elderly friend who uses my old cell phone as an emergency 911 phone (no activation). I saw the extra fat battery I had purchased for a backup on the back of the unit. I saw the pile of accessories I gave her in a shopping bag -- which she will never use. I got a wave of sadness thinking about all the pleasure I received as I upgraded my unit. Then, one new cell phone later I am still adding to the extras I need. I wonder, however, if they will keep updating the parts that are adaptable as new units come into play. They say so, but promises have been known to fade out in this mobile world.
Love my mobile toys and all their accessories and software...

How does a 4 connection mini plug on the "tip" work for all possible cables?

IOW: If there are only 4 connections coming out of the part that attaches to your Axim, then one would surmise it's only connected to four of the 36 pins on the Axim connector. Seems like that'd be a limitation, no?

This issue of phone accessories has made me stick with companies that offered Nokia phones since I have a boatload of them (3 wall chargers, 2 USB chargers, data transfer cable). I think the day is coming, though, where I'll take the plunge and go elsewhere. Just seems such a waste, though.

This device could make a difference in the amount of pain I feel when changing models, though.

Well, they are the USB connections (+5V, gnd, USB+, USB-). And no, they won't work for all possible devices, but it has the most commonly desired 2 connections: USB and power. I'm assuming they allow a charger to supply adequate current for operation while charging. What I want to know is, do they make a CVS videocam tip?

Now that's the way to go. A one time buy and you keep your accessories. I am sure we may be seeing a lot more of this type of thing in the future.

I too spent more on accessories, but THEY ARE ALL BT! Cool idea for a product, but a bit late too to the market. The only thing I use the bottom port for is to sync (and the cradle will come with any unit I upgrade to) and to plug in the car charger which came with the unit and thanks to an extended battery I have used it just once...

Looks good. I'm still waiting for someone to offer a right angle connector for the X50v. When my axim is plugged in on an airplane, the stupid connector plug and cord are always poking me in the stomach with no comfortable way to rest it except to lay it flat on the tray table.
