Yes, it does work in WM5 and it turns out it is free if you download from their download page. To make sure you have the free version once loaded on your PPC open it and click on the minimize button in the upper right corner, select about and a splash window should open with Free version listed above an OK button.
Yes, PocketGear lists it at the price noted above, but a quickie Google included links to ZDNet Australia and CNET's Download.com and both show the license for version 1.2 (the current one) as 'Free'.
I bought this app long time ago. There is another feature that has not been mentioned here is handwriting regconition, which convert your hand written note to text, too!. Perhaps only the paid version offers this?

$4.95, So much for free. When I hover over the "download" icon on their web site it shows "free download of trial". Geez, I thought all downloads were free especially if I'm paying my DSL bill. I recently downloaded another app (Remote Keyboard)that was "free" only to find out after the install it had a 14 day trial period. I really like the program, but I'm not going to spend the $ for something I occasionally use.

I just tried handwriting recognition on the FREE version...and it works!
