I downloaded the Free Version of CalcNote and began to install it when I was interrupted by PestPatrol, which told me that the installation program contains a Trojan called Antivirus Gold. A reference can be found here:
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/p...x?id=453094194
I am going to delete the installation program and not install.

I suspect this is a false positive, I run into them occassionally.

Yeah. I downloaded and installed this today - no warnings. Since then, I scanned my computer via Spybot, MS AntiSpyware and a-squared (all recently updated) and none find anything.

Given that this was, by all appearances, a retail product at one time, my guess is that that was a false positive, as suggested.

Nice little program so far - just so long as it doesn't nag me in 14 days....

;)

I think PPC user should be very careful when installing free softwares. All of us have sensitive information in our ppc. The hackers would be particularly interested to insert malicious software to get access to those information.

In general I think people give away free softwares for some reasons. So one should be able to justify the reason behind giving away free softwares before installation.

Am I a paranoid or a skeptic?
What is my motive for giving free advice?!!!

Does that mean you don't use Betaplayer or TCMP ?? You're missing out if that is the case.

I am actually more concerned regarding running .exe installation files on my PC, especially since I have to let Activesync through my firewall to complete the installation usually. For this reason, I usually install via .cab files if I find them.

This is indeed THE FIRST EVER app, I began using notes on my X50V. Inbuilt notes/calander/word/contacts etc are a boring load at all. It takes ages to load and for a few line note, you clog your axim while notes run in bg. You have to colse notes or other inbuilt apps. I really loved calcnote and reccomend to eveyone who is deterred by inbuilt notes.

Approve to a great extent. It has filled the gap of a practicle notes application. As cool as palm memopad. :approve:

Paranoid I suspect :rolling:

The purpose of this give away is probably to bring people to their site who may also see other (non free) software that they might want. It gives their products name recognition and costs them little or nothing to do. Good chance that this software has never sold well anyways.

By doing this they may increase sales on their award winning software Cash Organizer which is far ahead of the competitors but may not get as much recognition since their name is Inisoft and not SPB.

I agree Paranoia. this is the same as big business where they offer you something for free or very cheap to attract you to their store. The then try to sell you the big item.
