Finally! I hope it will resolve most of the AS problems...
We'll see...

I have not been able to sync my calendar for over a week using the original AS 4.0 or 4.1 beta. I loaded the official program and I was able to sync everything the first time. I'm holding my breath but it seems faster and less buggy.
Apparently the update is only to the ActiveSync that resides on the PC. The AS on the Axim is unchanged. Can anyone verify this? There doesn't appear to be any Help-About-Version menu on the Axim AS.
"Remote PC Sync (via Wifi or LAN) has been removed due to Enterprise customer feedback around security issues"
That really sucks, I was hoping they would add it back in? What about the vast majority that aren't Enterprise users?! Sux
It does indeed suck that Ms would remove functionality for an (albiet rich) minority. Revmoing functionality is never a good idea. If Enterprises are that worried, they need to have their admins lock the network down, not screw the rest of us out of useable features.
Next thing you know, Vista won't have a TCP/IP stack b/c it allows for remote exploits.
Down8,
The problem is the (in some cases stupid) end users. Also with
ActiveSync there isn't any security that I can see.
The Enterprise people are really paranoid that some dummy will let
the tiger out of the cage (ie tell someone outside how to sync over
an internal wifi or net port) and screw up the corporate email
system, or worse, tap into it.
If they force everone to be on-site and hooked to an
office laptop/desktop machine then they can(yeah right ready for this :D )
force them to play safe and secure....
Either way we're screwed.
But MS is sooo afraid of the security sword hanging over them that
they don't want to risk loosing any corporate business. Instead of fixing the feature, they just remove it...

That's correct - the install does not affect what is on the Axim.
Does the network sync issue include using a VPN connection to remote in and then using ActiveSync? If that doesn't work, their reasoning doesn't make sense . VPNs are secure.
Relating to VPN and network sync, see this link. Maybe you can help me out. :new_puppy
All that users have to do is sync to their laptop connected to the coporate network and you have virtually the same problem.
Yep... but that's not a software hole, is an A$$hole user :D
But it also doesn't give someone sitting in a car in the lot
access to the mail server either...
One thing we are in violent agreement about... removing the
function DOES NOT solve the problem.
PS - on the VPN thing ... that'll still work but you have to
have an active sync point on the other end of the VPN as well,
cause it's still a two hop connect (at least I think so, I'm
getting confused here :rolling: is it Tuesday yet ??)
