Hi Jake,

Thanks for taking the time to write the review! In the unit you reviewed, did it or did it NOT have a 5v output for a BT GPS? A "PDAgold" review linked to from Arkon's website shows that there is a connector:

This does not have the 5v output. The 720 does.

Would anyone care to recommend a similar mount that could accomodate an extended battery?

None of the unit-specific mounts can accomodate an extended battery. The Arkon folks have a series with a small cable attachment that can accomodate thicker units, but I've not heard of anyone actually saying they've used it with an extended battery.

Re: Review: Arkon DM320 Series Mount

Just an FYI. I contacted Arkon and the connectors are designed to be swapped out. However, this would need to be done by Arkon, not the end user. The email did say the connectors are very sensitive.

I am trying to find one of these to get someone as a xmas gift. Anyone know a good mail order spot (we are in Canada - so a place that ships to Canada would be great!)

I checked ebay - they have quite a few CM720's available. Any idea what the difference is? They seem quite a bit cheaper?

The cool thing about this mount is there a battery that lets you use it away from the vehicle. I checked and Arkon said it would charge the X50. I am not sure I believe that since on this page http://www.arkon.com/aximmount.php they say it will only supply 4.2V for charging. Did you happen to get a chance to try it with the battery Jake? Will it actully charge the X50? Thanks in advance and keep up those great reviews coming.

I didn't have a battery. From the battery specs, I doubt it will charge the X50, but it may let it operate for a few hours away from power.

I have the mount with the GPS and the battery. I have walked around with the mount and it does not charge the x50v. I will also say that I have yet to have a fully charged battery to fully test - it apparently takes forever to charge the battery... but a partially charged battery gave me several hours of GPS use outside the car.

I love this mount... but I echo that the mount is specific to the PDA you use and only Arkon can swap out the mount plug.

I have used the Arkon DM320 for about a month now. The first week I had it I forgot to pull the Ax off of the connector and instead just yanked it out of the jaws. Lucky me, the connector disconnected itself from the mount and was still attached to the Ax. I was able to attach it back on the mount w/ no problems. The small connection piece that I yanked off had small pins that I was very careful not to bend when pushing it back into position. No problems w/ the mount after that.

I have mixed feelings about this mount. Things I like about this mount:
- speaker quality is great/loud
- the 9 inch arm is sturdy w/ a strong suction cup
- the swivel connection that connects the arm to the actual mount is top notch. It allows me to freely position the mount, but once in place it doesn't move, even in bumpy situations.

The only thing that really concerns me about this mount is when I have the Ax in landscape mode. The jaws are kind of contoured and therefore only squeeze the bottom portion of the Ax. Even though it does grip the Ax pretty good, every time I look at the jaws, I get a little concerned that if I hit a good bump it could pop out.

I bought a Seidio mount when I was using my X5. I actually had both an Arkon and a Seidio mount. Even though the Seidio mount was custom made for the X5, the speaker quality really was bad. That was the reason I went w/ the Arkon this time for my X50v.

Hope this helps people looking for a powered mount.

Ed

DM320 Volume Not Working

I have had my DM320 for quite some time now and I like it. However, the volume recently stopped working. I placed an email into tech support today and await to see how they will handle this. If they don't replace it, I think I am going to get the SEIDIO mount.

Jake,

Can you tell me what the power cable is like?
The problem I have is that in my car the cigarette lighter is behind the handbrake so it needs to be pretty long.
I have a vent mount at the moment and the curly charger cable just pulls it out of the holder :-(

Many Thanks
