int13 production releases Fight Cube Arena

This looks like another Tetris clone. But this is the first one I've seen that has multiplayer capabilities - via WIFI, BT and GPRS.

I bought this game for my Dell Axim x50v and my girlfriends Toshiba e755. We really enjoy multiplayer games and she is really only into puzzle games.

The games interface is very polished, the menu is well designed and the music doesn't suck. Unfortuately the game is obviously unfinished. I have had nothing but trouble getting multiplayer working and it doesn't appear as if I will. Not without a major update to the game. I can't comment on how multiplayer works through GPRS and Bluetooth, as the only connection method my girlfriend and I share is Wi-Fi.

The multiplayer game is similiar to the single player game, except whenever you get rid of 2 or more rows. The same number of rows minus 1 appears on the bottom of your oppenents screen.

Whenever I'm playing against my girlfriend, the first time I get rid of 2 or more rows, her Pocket PC freezes and requires a soft reset. It doesnt matter who is hosting and it doesnt matter if were connected through an access point or Ad-Hoc, it always happens.

If she gets rid of 2 or more rows first, it works as it should. Also the person joining gets disconnected alot, its happened to both of us. It says server has quit, but the player hosting is still playing away, with no message that the other left.

Also whenever we finish a game (the first time I was just screwing around and made all the blocks pile one on top of the other till it hit the top and I lost the game). As soon as it was over my game froze, and I had to soft reset. Everytime I've tried this again, it ended with the same results.

The other major glitch is quite amatuerish for a profressional game release. While playing a multiplayer game. If I end it and start another one, the blocks from the previous game would show up in the new game right where I left them. This only occurs when playing multiplayer.

If you dont plan on playing multiplayer the game is fine. But come on, Multiplayer is this games only selling feature. There are a dozen other tetris games out there that can do single player tetris just fine. Some are free and some are cheap and some are not. But at least they do what they say they do.

I must say this, the 3 emails I have sent to int13 have all had a response within 8 hours. They were friendly and very helpfull. They just don't seem to have any more answers. They haven't had any of these problems, but they never beta tested using a Toshiba e755.

In the most recent email they sent me a PC copy of the game to do some more tesing. Its an exact copy of the game and runs in a small 240 x 320 window. I played around with it hosting a game from from my Pocket PC and vice versa. I also tried it with my girlfriends Pocket PC and with all three of them connected. The verdict, I'm still have problems. Even the PC version froze after finishing one of the games.

They have a nice system going, instead of paying me to beta test for them, I paid them to do it. The game is just not finished. My recommendation, I would stay away and wait for an update to be released.

Thanks for the little mini review. Sounds like it still needs a little work.

So it turns out that the version being sold by Handango was an older build of Fight Cube. The developers emailed me the latest version and it fixed almost all of my problems. So if you bought the game and have similiar problems to what I listed above, email int13 to send you the latest build.

There are still two problems in the game. While playing a multiplayer game. If I end it and start another one, the blocks from the previous game would show up in the new game right where I left them. And the other problem is if I host a game and then end it and try to host again, I get an error. I have to quit the game and then restart to host again.

These two gliches should be fixed with the next patch, no idea when. At least I can finaly play the game without it disconnecting me or freezing.

Thanks for the update. We enjoy playing multiplayer Tetris on the Nintendo, so this is good news :approve:
