Apples and oranges...
TCPMP has the focus on video, and it seems to have a bigger development group (currently the entire interface of MortPlayer's written by me, the playback routines are re-used Open Source with some minor modifications). Thus it benefits in better codec support (.wma, .wmf, .avi, .mpg, ...) while the handling is currently a bit difficult for audio - most of the actions are only available in menus or by assigning them to device buttons. However, this might change in V1.0, where they want to implement skin support.
MortPlayer on the other hand has its focus on being an MP3 player substitute. For this, there are e.g. the Favorites and a "Changer Mode", which allows to handle your directory contents or playlist files like CDs in a disk changer or directories in an MP3 CD player - if one list is finished, the next is played, you can shuffle through all favorites, etc. Also, most skins include big buttons so you don't have to use the stylus in the train or car. Additionally, there are features like bookmarks, stream management, ...
There are differences in the playback routines and the equalizer, too. What sounds better seems to be a matter of taste, devices, and maybe used encodings (LAME, Blade, ....).
