RUMOR : Axim X51v is the last PDA only from Dell

Ok, this is a rumor guys. I am not saying if its true or false, as I don't even know. (And I think I would know) It may be true, but I wouldn't count on it yet. The article I posted the other day is not a precursor to this either. I read it today after reading posts on other sites about this rumor. After reading my own post again, I felt as if it may make the reader think that what is being said now is true. I want to reiterate to you all that the post was not intended or directed as such. The only goal of that thread was to see what you guys thought about the current frontpage news situation, since its so slow lately.

UPDATE : As mentioned in this thread, the source of this rumor was posted right here on 1-24-05. Thanks MannC7 for letting me know this, in the merging of ipaqhq and mobilitysite, I must have missed that one.

I would not object if Dell next comes out with a Dell Axim following the XV6600 design. Same HTC form factor, but you get a PDAphone instead but with a VGA screen.

If I wanted a PDA and a phone, I would have gotten a Blackberry. My cellular company supports Blackberry use and that's what I would have gone with. I don't want two devices in one. I've never liked those sorts of devices. For example, I've never bought a TV with a built in VCR or DVD player and never will. If one breaks, then you're without both. This is my first "real" PDA, and I hope it won't be my last! I love it!

IS Dell going to make you sign a 2 year contract in order to buy the phone/PDA at a decent price? or charge you a billion dollars for an unlocked model?

I'm going to be interested in seeing the new Treo 700w that runs wm05. Will be interesting to see if there are as many problems with it as the axims with wm05.

Isn't it fantastic how these rumours bounce about all over the place

I remember a saying I once heard about hearsay...

"You can hear fat meat frying".

'Nuff said.

yeah, its kinda embarassing that the rumor originated here and I am linking to an article on another site.

On the 700w, I won't use it as a regular machine until its GSM personally, but I will let you guys know when I post my review of the Verizon Palm Treo 700w.

I have to say I'm a bit let-down by this making the front page. There are a LOT of baseless opinions floating around the forums lately, and this 'rumor' is no exception. If you read the referenced post, it doesn't even say that the info came from Dell -- it supposedly came from some sales rep.

Everyone here is obvoiusly upset with how Dell has left us hanging on the x50v, so rumors and predictions are always going to follow. But I think its important that we don't give more credit than they deserve, expecially on something as 'fuzzy' and unlikely as this.

bluevolume - I agree with your statements about this not being news and I agree, unconfirmed it is not "news". I have presented it as Rumor.

Thanks!

Yeah. I saw this rumor over on geek this morning. I had no idea that it originated here. I remember seeing it here first though.
