"Customers and enthusiasts continue to appreciate the Axim X51 family and it is available today on www.dell.com. Consistent with our policies I cannot comment on future products or roadmaps."

Reminds me of answers given at the Alito confirmation ...

PDAs are not going to go away... that is nuts, the technology is picking up speed on this branch of mobil units.

I wouldn't doubt or be surprised if Dell decides to get out for good... I would probably bet that the PDA section of the company has probably not made them as much money as they thought it would, simply because of all the support, troubleshooting and issues they have had with them.

Ah, whatever happens, happens... but I do agree that "Customers and enthusiasts continue to appreciate the Axim X51 family and it is available today on www.dell.com. Consistent with our policies I cannot comment on future products or roadmaps." is not an article to go in the front page.

hahaha...this is like Seinfeld...news about nothing.

Next press release from Dell: "As a commitment to our customers and shareholders, we will continue to produce new products in the future. As well, we believe the sky is blue."

That's the whole point.

"People use the Axim lineup. It is currently for sale. We can't talk about our trade secrets or give out any info at this time. Thanks."

It's the "neither confirm nor deny but acknowlege the rumors" approach.

"Customers and enthusiasts continue to appreciate the Axim X51 family"

How is this statement relevant towards the rumor of Dell dropping pure PDA's?

All this statement did was tell me what I already know. Yes I do enjoy the Axim family. Sheesh. What a waste of posted data.

When a company makes a comment stating that they don't make comments about rumors and/or future products, 90% of the time that is a confirmation that the rumor is TRUE.

Of course 85% of all percentages quoted by people are 90% fabricated.

But not mine of course.

For me my needs are for a Pocket PC and then a PIM. I would hope there is still enough market for this type of unit for some one to stay in the market. I have friends that want only a PIM unit and carry a cell phone. That type of unit would be perfect for them but not for me. I would have thought that Dell would have said up front that there are no plans to leave the Pocket PC market. Guess I should buy a couple extra X51Vs for the future or look to HP for a unit.

There will always be a need for the PDA. If not Dell then someone will come along to pick up the ball after (if) its dropped.

Lets start a new rumor: I hear SONY is about to come back into the US PDA market, possibly picking up the Axim line after Dell sells its PDA line to it.

Shhhhhhhhh, pass it along

So as a result of this rumour, we don't know what they know. We do know that they know however. And now they know that we know that they know. They don't think we need to know

No way to Converged!

I have been using PPC since 2000 and I never have understood why people want a converged product I use my bluetooth phone tucked in my bag if I want to get on the internet or stream music and video (does very well :)and has better video pic too than converged products) . I still want to have two seperate ones just in case one fails, etc. People just do not understand the technology It really isn't a bother. I think there will be small specialist who continue with PPC type devices for us who appreciate their flexibility, power, and versitility. BTW: You still have to pay additonal costs for data transfer so what is the benefit anyway?

I LOVE MY x50v 128 MB!!!!! A total addict!
DVD playback: Check
Music playback with Bass: Check
Streaming music: Check
Streaming video: Check
Producivity Suite: Check
iPod: What a hype and joke!

Dell's statement didn't do a whole lot for me ....
