Spb Software House Releases Spb Backup - the Ultimate Tool for Saving Your Data
February 14, 2006 - Spb Software House, a leading Pocket PC software developer, releases Spb Backup - a new Pocket PC utility for backing up all of your Pocket PC content to a storage card.
Spb Backup is based on the proven technology used in Spb Clone. Thousands of enterprise users rely upon Spb Clone to create exact copies of their "master" PDA devices. This tested technology was used to create a backup program that would benefit Pocket PC consumers at all levels.
Spb Backup creates a self-restoring image file that can be restored with or without installing the main Spb Backup application. The backup file can be compressed and password protected with strong 128-bit AES algorithm. The scheduled backup features will help users to have regular, mistake-free backups.
Spb Backup features include:
Scheduled backups
Self restoring backup files
Options to separately backup PIM data, emails, "My Documents" folder, and system data
Backup file compression and encryption
Today plug-in with previous and next backup date notification
Desktop PC utility for extracting information from backup files
Pricing and Availability
Spb Backup is currently available in Czech, English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, and Traditional Chinese. A free 5-backups limited trial can be downloaded, or Spb Backup can be purchased for $19.95 USD, from www.spbsoftwarehouse.com.
And on a personal note - I have used this several times now and love it. Very easy to use. Creates a self-extracting file that, if you perform a hard reset, does not require Spb Backup to restore your settings . . . overall very pleased with this product! :approve:

I use this product with my verizon wireless xv6700 and it works without a hitch. This product will give those individuals who feel disinfranchised with Sprite Softwares practices a solid program to embrace. I have been a beta tester for this product from its inception and must tell you I am estatic by the final product. This program is what windows mobile 5 users have been waiting for. Many thanks to the SPB team for bringing us yet another superior program. Tim January
I am pleased to see this from Spb, though. I prefer to not have all my eggs in one basket so to speak. I ran both BackupBuddy and BackupMan on my Palm PDAs. I'll have to try this out.

I have a $10.00 credit at Handango so... I might just try it too!
Schedule them on alternate days or something.
Can you elaborate on "Sprite Softwares practices" for a relative newbie?
Thanks,
They rubbed a lot of people the wrong way when they were preparing to release the new version of Sprite Backup 5. Basically they started off saying if you purchased Sprite in the last 2 months you would get a discount on the new version. Everyone else (which I assume a lot of them were beta testers) were told - too bad, so sad.
I guess they caught a lot of flack for it because right before release they announced they had decided to give the discount to anyone running ver 3.1.4
I'm sure there are some more reasons around to dislike their business model, but that one is the most recent I can think off.
Oh, and I really dislike having to buy software before I can try it. That kind of annoys me.

I've downloaded and installed Spb Backup onto my WM2K3.2 X50V and run a stand-alone backup, which ran relatively quickly. I also set it to do a scheduled backup at 06:06 daily. I have a Sprite Backup scheduled for 05:05 daily, so this will provide a safe basis for a restore test tomorrow morning. The only observation I can make at this time is that Spb Backup appears to kill the Odyssey client in the system tray in such a way that I have to manually restart it. Sprite Backup does not do this.

Even after a soft-reboot?
On your test in the morning ... I think you'll find both Sprite and Spb do an excellent job of restoring from a Hard-Reset. The only difference I saw between the two was Spb handled my Exchange Server sync (via Wifi) a lot better on the first attempt. Sprite once I had restored, (everytime) upon the inital sync would cause an error and then on the second round it would replace the PIM data on my device. Spb did not suffer from the same issue, and exchange would sync properly on the first attempt.
Really this was minor since I would not lose data or get duplicates either way. :)
The stand-alone backup of Spb Backup presents a softkey reset button, which I tap and the PPC soft resets. Afterwards, there is no Odyssey. I soft reset again myself and it is still not there, It does not return until I go into START\SETTINGS\CONNECTIONS\ODYSSEY CLIENT to restart it. And, yes, it is in \WINDOWS\STARTUP. And it does not show up in the Running Programs list before the backup is started.
