This is a very interesting product and one that I will be wiling to spend my money on. MP3 musics get old and you need to rip-and-move new songs constantly. With this add-on, you will be able to enjoy fresh tunes from your favorite FM station throughout the day. Not to mention getting the latest news in the morning during your commute! Here is the quote from the above product page:
"Your PDA is an incredible source of entertainment and information. With the pocket RADIO you can listen to your favorite FM radio stations for music, sports, and news. During use, the pocket RADIO allows simultaneous use of all other Pocket PC applications. Complete and ready to use, the pocket RADIO comes with the CF card, earphones, and specialized software. The pocket RADIO is compatible with Pocket PCs utilizing the Compact Flash Slot, a StongARM or XScale processor, and running on the Microsoft Pocket PC platform."
They also have an SD slot radio available for preorder, though io333's comment is good. I s'pose you can justify it by just focusing on the Ax toys! Can't say that trying to queue up songs (MP3 and OGG) on the Ax while driving is the easiest or safest thing to do. The radio would probably be the same.
Why the heck would anybody want this? I've got a tiny Sony FM/AM radio that clips on my belt, has ten presets, uses 2 AAA batteries that last forever, came with decent headpphones and cost about half of what Dell wants. Plus, I've dropped the radio dozens of times, and the worst thing that happens is that I have to reset the builtin clock. Now, a TV receiver on a CF card I could understand...
I would want one just to add to the swiss army knife appeal I have for my Axim... you know it can and does do it all. I will probably wait until the price comes down or can find it on ebay.
As far as getting an external radio, I go to ball games (baseball, basketball and football) all the time and do not want to lug around a teeny/tiny radio and my axim. I can simply carry around a backpack with all my axim accessories with me. :D

Here, Here... I second that motion! Portable TV would rule.
1. if i have a wifi CF card i couldn't i just stream radio from the web? (haven't tried it yet so i figured i'd ask)
npr streams broadcasts, and there are tons of internet radio 'webstations' out there now...
2. why occupy the ENTIRE CF slot with the am/fm radio... how about 256mb of memory built in with the radio CF card then we're not killing the extra slot... or a pass through slot in the top of the radio to insert a SD memory card. they had to put some memory in there for the radio software right (burned into rom?)...
3. can you record what you're listening to locally to the axim? (didn't see that option on the zoom in image on dell's site)

:rolling:
I go to ball games a lot too. And, I haven't found any that are broadcast on FM. That's why I have to lug my tiny AM-FM radio along with my Axim. But, I'm not complaining. At least I'm not using my Axim battery to listen for 3 hours.
er.. yah this is kinduva silly idea. Why waste the battery and the slot for listening to a radio? Is it really necessary that it hooks up to the Axim? Since when did radio reception require 300-400 mhz processor?

Who knows if it really uses the processor ?
Maybe it's just a normal radio, using the Axim as a battery ?
Now that would be lame ! (you can't even record)
In general, I wouldn't use an expensive machine to do simple things (TV remote, radio, maybe soon we'll see a compact flash cork opener)
Don't know if you guys saw this, but Chef's Choice just came out with a Compact Flash Knife Sharpener for Pocket PC 2002. No word if this works with the Axim, but it does say any XScale Pocket PC (which we all know is what the Axim is)....
