Handster Releases Embedded Payment Solution for Pocket PC Software

This seems like it would have some merit . . .

Handster has released a solution for integration of payment into shareware programs for Windows Mobile Pocket PC devices. Integrated programs have a 'Buy' button in the menu and show a "Buy/Try" screen on startup.

On clicking the "Buy" button in the program the user can enter credit card information directly on the PDA. A secure SSL transaction is executed via GPRS (if available) or via ActiveSync when the PDA synchronizes with an Internet-connected desktop PC. Once the payment is completed, the application gets unlocked automatically.

The company sees this as time saving feature for end-users. There is no need for registration codes to be entered because the program is unlocked automatically once the payment is processed. This eliminates the risk of registration e-mails getting lost because of spam filters.

If the program trial is expired, users can [enter] the credit card information and use the program for some additional time. Once the handheld is connected to the Internet, the payment is automatically completed and the program is unlocked for unlimited time.

Ok this might sound silly but... what happens let's assume I hard reset and re-install the program. Would that mean that my registration info is erased as well and I would have to pay again?

Thats a valid point, espically right now waiting for ROM updates...

If I re-enter my credit card number, will it keep a record of all of the things I have purchased, and unlock the one I have bought already?

I personally wouldn't be too comfortable entering my credit card info on public hotspots. And at home/work (for most people) theres already a computer for more secured transaction.

Another thing: if the software in question is being sold through Handango, there goes the ability to use discount codes....plus Handango developers have all been notified that the model for software registration and providing access codes is changing. I believe the deadline for the developers to make the change is May 1st.

I don't care what they say... I really don't feel comfortable with entering my credit card into my mobile device... There is a lot more possibilities of the pocket pc getting lost or stolen and there goes your credit card information.

What about if you change devices...

Call me old fashioned... but I don't like the idea.

Hello everybody! Thanks for your interest! Some answers for you questions:

Buying software from our site you receive registration code to e-mail, so, you can use this registration code after Hard Reset to unlock the program.

If you haven't received mail with registration code (due to spam filter, for example) you can login at our site and get registration code there.

If you have GPRS module in your Pocket PC, then transaction is executed immediatly and credit card information is not stored at all on PDA. If your PDA has no build-in mobile, then transaction is executed when you put it into cradle, via ActiveSync. Yes, until that time (usually several hours or a day) credit card information is stored in encrypted form on your PDA, but it is removed from the device just after transaction.
On Handster.com online shop we don't store credit cards, so that they could not be stolen.

Transactions are executed by any Internet connection - via ActiveSync, GPRS, WiFi, Bluetooth connection. Independent from the connection, we open secure 128 bit SSL channel to execute it. The level of security is the same as paying on the online website. But it is more convenient and user-friendly.

Buying from the device you can also use discount codes by entering them in "Promotion code" field.

Will be happy to answer your any other questions.
