I have been very reluctant to accept facts and rumors presented that lead to the Dell Axim's death. There have been many reports of business and Dell Sales rep discussing the death. One of the companies had an employee make it over to Aximsite armed with info given to them by their Dell Sales rep. Shortly after he published it, some official from that company franticly asked me to remove these posts from Aximsite. That incident should have opened my eyes to the fact that these rumors had substance. In fact all the rumors caused me to post this on Aximsite.
Yesterday PDA Live ran a story where the writers saw on a show that Dell was not going to make the Axim any longer. It is likely that the info conveyed in this show could have stemmed from the rumors that were making it around the blog world recently.
"I was watching DL.TV today. The episode from April 11, 2006 and Patick Norton said he hear from someone at Dell that said that Dell will not be making any more new PDA's."
The recent rumors, a gut feeling, and vibes from dialog of my own with Dell, leave me ready to throw in the towel. No, Aximsite does not go away. Yes, I am not expecting to see any new Dell Axim PDA.

What's next, a converged device? I'm in, as long as they don't make our display/digitizer smaller, don't drop the CF slot, and don't slow down the processor. Oh, and they don't pump the price up wayyyy too much. My belief at this juncture is that Windows Mobile is going over to converged devices (PDA/smart phones). I'll still be happy as long as they don't hamper.
That's really too bad, if true. The Axims have been around for awhile now - and they're good devices. Even recently I've done some shopping around and you just can't get the same "bang for the buck" just about anywhere else. My Ax (X50Mid) has been as reliable and durable as any of the PPC's I've had.
However ... business is business. If Dell "laid an egg" with WM5 to the extent that they're unwilling to continue the line - well, then someone else will fill in the void created by their absence.
For now Howard, it means nothing to the site. Of course it will be an ongoing evaluation, but I don't see any reason to make any drastic changes anytime soon.
ALSO, Please understand that I am not saying that the DELL AXIM is dead for sure, but my optimism has faded recently. Until I hear it out of Dell's mouth for myself, I will continue to believe there is a chance.

I think that Aximsite will remain pretty popular for a while longer after Dell announce (if they ever) the death of the Axim. Many Axim owners will need a good place to share knowledge and get information/answer to their problems. When the site stops to attrack its fair share of new members and visits, what will happen? Any continuity with Mobility Site?

IMHO, but i think that the ppc was a way for hardware devs to make some time to develipe the tpc. i dont really think that the ppc was ment to be a super moble device. i think that it was just a short era during which tpcs were beeing made faster and smaller... the next gen of (psudo) axim will be a tpc.

It's sux that Dell may not make the Axim anymore, but like other have said, I also think that the Axim is still going to remain widely popular. I love my X30H! Maybe this is a good time for me to get a X51V :D
Sorry to hear about the possible death of the Dell Axim line. My X50v is the best PDA I've owned.
Maybe Dell is considering going in the UMPC direction. Then we can all use the umpcsite.com for our information

tpc = tablet PC ? Just want to make sure I'm interpreting the shorthand correctly!
If that's the case, that might be OK - but price may be an issue.

Well being able to speak without any inside knowledge of anything, then either aximsite could blend into mobility site (I've got my chair there already ) or it can pickup to include dells next bright idea (whatever that may be)
do we need to panic?
should we run to the hills?
should we start screaming?
NO! our hardware & software still work. our forums are still here, our avatars are still as great as ever.
So its business as usual at aximsite.

Perhaps, the story should be, "RIP DELL," If we keep letting them rip us off with great products but inferior service. The response to every service call should not be, "oh so very sorry, we will send you another one, just like the one you have, and you can box up the one you have...Again, we apologize for that you have had so much bad time." Dell is killing themselves with churning out newer better faster, while not supporting that which it has turned loose on the market. Were it not for Aximsite, I would say that ninety per cent of all axims sold would already be in the trash stream. That simply is not right. Thank God for Axim site. Turns out that this thing I thought was a less than useful paper weight is actually a pretty powerful machine! I would NEVER have learned that from Dell.:exc:

............ and that brings up a good point....what is dell going to do for their "meble device"? the umpc is prolly the next gen of stand offs until tpcs.... by 2020 everyone will use a tpc...
