GSPlayer Beta for WM5 is out and survived my testing

I know this is not exactly the latest news but I have been testing this for a few weeks now and when I upgraded my Axim for the latest, I needed some time to test this before putting this on the front page. The good thing is that this new version by GreenSoftware is working as well as the original even with my new X51v running Windows Mobile 2005. If you are looking for a better program to replace the limited Media Player, GSPlayer is to my opinion the best free player available for Pocket PC.

Features
- MP3 playback using the MAD 0.15.0b
- Ogg Vorbis playback
- Wave format playback
- HTTP streaming playback (MP3 / Ogg Vorbis)
- SHOUTcast streaming playback (MP3 / Ogg Vorbis)
- ID3 v1/v1.1 support
- PLS/M3U playlist support
- 10 bands equalizer (MP3 playback only)
- Surround / Bassboost effects
- Reverb / Echo effects
- Skin support
- Hardware button mapping
- Noiseless playback (See decoder tab in options dialog)
- Sleep Timer
- Hold (Lock hardware buttons)
- PocketPC / PocketPC2002 / WM2003 / WM2003SE support

how does this program compare to TCPMP.. I got this impression ( from aximsite ) that TCPMP is rock solid the best player on the current market ?

Any words of advice from the gurus ?

You can listen to Shoutcast streams with GSPlayer, and it supports M3U playlists, which I don't think that TCPMP can.. It's a great player. :approve:

Anbody compared this to Mort's new Mortplayer?

I've been using the previous version of Mortplayer and it's pretty good.

It does. Or at least, the ShoutCast streams I tried work on TCPMP. My Winamp playlists work too.

I was wondering how many of the MP3's in your playlist are LEGAL?

x-scale patch? do you mean the vga thing?

I've been using it for some time and I like it. One problem is that the buttons get a little confused when the wm5 soft buttons are activated.
The problem I had with the previous version(not for wm5) was that it would sometimes crash when turning on the ppc after it was shut down using the sleep timer.
Unfortunately it still happens (rarely) with this new version.
gsplayer is my preferred player for music and I love the sleep timer function! Thanks for the review

It STILL won't play .WMA files - smaller and better quality then MP3 IMO.

I use the superb free TCPMP (shortly to be re-named back its original name of BetaPlayer I believe) for both video AND music. TCPMP will play WMA as well as virtually all other audio and video formats, although you may well need plug-ins for some of them.

Yeah sorry, I meant the VGA patch (x-scale version for my device anyways) which is here: http://www.cs.pitt.edu/~jmisurda/ppc/#GSPlayer
