We need to get on Dell for this. It's so much worse than anyone thinks, I mean, I had to get glasses in 9th grade: 4 years BEFORE I got a pda or cell phone! These crooks are killing our eyesight in advance too!

In truth, from what I've heard from the ophthalmologists I've gone to, needing glasses during/at the end of puberty is perfectly normal (so if you needed glasses in high school and not before, that's nothing to be concerned about). Further, reading in low light, watching tv with no light, squinting at tiny screens or text... don't really cause problems. They just make them more obvious. If I read a book on my Axim without my glasses, I get a headache faster than larger text on a larger screen (or book) but that's not making my eyes worse.

Glasses that are too strong, however, can weaken your eyes.

Dell should be fairly safe; I think any X50 owner who tried the upgrade to WM5 can attest that they did everything they could to stop their customers from using their Axims.

I've been having trouble seeing lately, and got an Axim fairly recently... but I'd rather blame the CRT monitor at work. Certainly ozVGA has nothing to do with it. <_<

eye strain does NOT cause vision loss

See title. You can not damage your vision by straining your eyes, nor by wearing the wrong glasses prescription. You might get tired eyes or a headache, but that's it.

From my experience my vision was way better than normal when I was younger. I play alot of video games I had a commodore64 with every game possible for it and me and my friends would play it all day and it hooked up to a tv screen. Then I got a sega and we played it all the time for years. Never really had any vision problems until we started playing a newer version of madden nfl which apparently flickered the tv screen at a different rate than the older version we played all the time. I noticed I would have a headache and blurred vison after playing the newer version. Eventually I got used to it no headaches but my ability to focus on small print and stuff in lowlight or newspaper print(dull background) was still affected. Later I started playing a lot of games on my laptop that has a 15inch high resolution lcd screen on it. Delta force mostly on the internet which is a fps type game that you shoot at people from long distances away so sometimes it looks like you are shooting at specks on the screen which actually is a person far away. Well playing hours on end seemed to make my vision worse and I have to use reading glasses now but I am also 45 yrs old which could be a contributing factor. My job i sit behind a computer screen most of the day for 15 yrs. We have had crt and lcd monitors the lcds are better on the eyes than crt because there is no scanning or flicker. And I have found that going outside in sunlight for good periods of time instead of artificial light helps my vision recover somewhat. Staying away from tvs and computers for long periods helps also. Reading glasses also helps keep the eye strain down since your eyes dont have to work as hard to focus.

I thought you are supposed to play a gamecube on the smallest screen possible.Big screens and little screens are bad for you?Anyway,if they said air conditioning carried mold and is bad for your health, would you quit using it.I wouldn't ever quit using air conditioning.I live in a very hot, humid area where air conditioning is just as much a necessity as food and water.Anyway, all screens might be bad for you,but are we just going to dump technology and live like "cave men" just because technology is two steps forward and one step back?(as in it makes life easier, yet there are tiny health risks)
I DON'T THINK SO!
Speaking of which,I recently had an eye appointment(after I've had my X30 for over a year) and I am so attached to my X30 (and the music on it) that I tried to use it with my eyes dialated.Considering an Axim is a very productive and entertaining device that most importantly runs on Windows(yes,I think that is even more important than any other factor),are we just going to throw away a device that most importantly has the new, modern, somewhat similar to windows xp design?I use it all the time to do my science assignment, get online, and play music. There are positive and negative things about everything, but here the positive(owning an Axim) seriously outweighs the negative(a slight decrease in vision).

Meh. I've been using computers for over a decade, and handhelds for half that, and my vision is still as good as ever.

so true - it would be nice to see whether there was any scientific basis for original article and where it stands in relation to other scientific studies.
Until then here is another anecdote - my vision was slowly but steadily deteriorating until about two years ago, when I coincidentally got my first Axim -since then prescription has not changed at all.
