Like most companies, Dell doesn't release every update that they work on in house... Hence, jumps in numbers are to be considered "normal." I have an old notebook whose BIOS went from A09 to A21 in about a quarter, and I never saw anything in between...

The hit list according to the download page is:
Fixes and Enhancements
  1. Windows Mobile V5.0 Adaptation Kit Update 2.3.1 enhancement.
  2. Audio driver change (headset output gain adjustment) due to French audio regulation
  3. Fix system can't wake up with CF card installed.
  4. Enhance CF I/O card performance.
  5. Fix CF serial modem port Open/Close issue.
  6. Support Activesync serial connection switcher.

Make your own decisions... I don't have the time to reload all of my apps right now, but maybe next month

You shouldn't have to wait long at all. Not longer than normal. Sounds like your locked up. I'd hard reset again....or call Support.

Didn't you get the memo?

Dell goofed, X50v can't run WM5 well.

Hate to say it, and this is not intended to be flame bait, but I personally think that x50v users got screwed on the whole WM5 thing and are probably going to stay that way, unfortunately. I don't look for Dell to be releasing anything else for the X50 (in the way of a ROM or OS update). Just my opinion. No evidence to back it up.

I agree....with the ease that they are giving away x51v's to x50v users who tried to upgrade...it seems like they are trying to bury the proverbial "x50v running WM5"
also know as the hatchet. :ax:

I recently received my X51v replacement for the X50v that was crippled by the WM5 upgrade. My A12 upgrade went fine. One note: The hard reset is holding the power button while you press your stylus in the reset hole for about 2 seconds--I think a lot of folks just do a quick poke. If you hold the stylus on the reset button, it virtually guarentees the reset works (you don't panic and still see the old ROM in your system settings).

what? they're giving away x51v's to x50v users who unsuccesfully tried to upgrade to WM5???

I bought WM5 a long time ago and ran into all kinds of problems - after calling Dell support, their advice was to download a "fix" which would basically just revert back to the old OS - which would've been ok advice if the WM5 upgrade had been free, but I paid good money for it. Also, there are a lot of features in WM5 I like so downgrading isn't something I really wanted to do...

I've since been struggling with WM5 - some of the tips on this site made it halfway bearable but it's still far from smooth... at first, I figured I'd just wait for a ROM upgrade that would fix it, but I no longer think that will ever happen...

Under what conditions is Dell willing to exchange an x50v to an x51v? maybe I should reopen that old ticket...

Question

I hope this fixes the constant need to reset and the numerous error messages I received every time I turned the darn thing on. After my beloved X5 was stolen, I bought the X51V and have hated it!

Trouble updating

I am trying to apply the new ROM. The update process applies the start-up section update, and then says to hard reset to continue. I hold down power button and press the reset button for a couple of seconds. When it comes back a window flashes about resetting to factory defaults, but it is gone very quickly and I cannot press the contact button as it says. The device then comes back to the normal today screen, with nothing reset. The update utility does not then go any further, as it says it will. I have deleted the partnership in ActiveSync and nothing changes. What can I try to get this to continue to actually update the ROM? Thanks.
