eddie1261, AS is a shoddy program, but not so bad that one would need to go through all of the trouble that you speak of. In sum, the majority of the problems you are experiencing with AS are not with AS but with some other element (probably in either your connection or some other directly unrelated pc trouble). When taking this into account you must remember how AS connects to your pc via network protocols.

Though there may have been other issues, all I can say is that the only thing different today is the new version of AS. Same cables, plugged into the same USB port as always, etc. That's what was puzzling to me.

Bad juju, maybe?

I am still running A/S 3.7.1 with my X50V (WM2K3.2). Is there any advantage to "upgrading" to A/S 4.2?

UPDATE: I went ahead and installed ActiveSync V4.2. It seems to be OK so far. I did the FireWall modifications as described before attempting to sync the first time. I guess the advantage is that I can go ahead and try to install the .Net CF V2 now without having to deal with CABs and RAR files and the like. Hopefully, it will let me install to BIS...

UPDATE TO UPDATE: And indeed .Net CF V2 did install to BIS!

UPDATE TO UPDATE TO UPDATE: More on how upgrading went for me in this thread.

Seems like this is not the norm, to have ActiveSync 4.2 install well? It seems to have for me. I will take lucky, then!

And why are there all these ActiveSync threads that are not in the ActiveSync Forum????
