Microsoft ActiveSync 4.2 is the latest sync software release for Windows Mobile-based devices. ActiveSync 4.2 supports PC sync via USB cable, Bluetooth, or infrared connection.
Changes in ActiveSync 4.2 help resolve connectivity related issues with Microsoft Outlook, proxies, partnerships, and connectivity.
Microsoft Outlook Improvements: Resolves issues relating to error code 85010014.
Proxy/DTPT interaction Improvements: Improved auto configuration of device Connection Manager settings when desktop has no proxy path to the internet.
Improved Desktop Pass Thru behavior with ISA proxy failures.
Partnership improvements: Better resolution of multiple devices with the same name syncing with the same desktop.
Connectivity Improvements: Better handling of VPN clients (resolve unbinding of protocols from our RNDIS adapter). New auto detection of connectivity failure with user diagnostic alerts.
Is it possible to sync without going through that network crap?
Forced to have DHCP client running and open a firewall just to throw in a couple of apps even though it's a USB connection is so insanely stupid.
I've just upgraded ActiveSync from 4.2 beta to 4.2.
The upgrade itself went fine. However, to get the upgrade to work (it wouldn't connect to my PDA) I had to delete the mobile device from within ActiveSync, then make a new connection.
To do this I found I needed to turn off my Norton Firewall, let the new connection start and then turn the Firewall back on, whereupon Norton let me "allow" the connection. Active Sync then worked fine.
Second problem was with ewallet from Illium. It had been working fine under ActiveSync 4.2 beta but now I can't get it to synchronise.
Symptoms on the PC are:
Synchronise - Run Synch Pro Now is greyed out on the menu
Synchronise - Synchronisation Set up opens the wizard but freezes when Next is selected from this second screen. This leave ewallet as "Not Responding" and needing an "End Program" dialogue to close it.
I tried the firewall on/off but no change. Now I've asked Illium support if they have any ideas.
Has anyone gone from the beta to the 4.2 release? What have you discovered? Any differences? I'm using the beta and am wondering if I should move to the release? :headscrat
I installed AS4.2 on top of 4.1, after disconnecting my X51V from the cradle
.
At work we have an Exchange server. Installation went without a hitch, didn't need to delete the partnership. After connecting the X51V to the cradle, the PC discovered the new hardware and synched without any problems.
At home I did the same. Again installation went without a hitch.
After reading the Microsoft As4.2 page, I'm not clear on what the improvements are. I'd appreciate your input.
I just installed 4.2 and it seems to be working fine. I installed on top of 4.1 and even installed some apps with 4.2 and it seems to be working normally. I still can't really see the improvements though over 4.1...
The version I got with my Axm was buggy to where it kept losing the relationship with the handheld and I had to reinstall almost every time I wanted to sync. As a result my Axim sat unused for 3 months. The new version has been in place for 5 days and it has not crashed at all.
