SanDisk Corporation introduced today a new 2-gigabyte(GB) microSD card, the largest capacity of the worlds smallest removable flash memory card to meet demand for a new generation of MP3 music phones, including the forthcoming Verizon Wireless Chocolate by LG mobile phone.
Apart from its retail line of mobile flash memory cards, SanDisk also announced the addition of a 2GB capacity to its OEM line of microSD cards, providing manufacturers with flash memory cards that range from 64 megabytes (MB) to 2GB. On the retail side, SanDisk offers capacities beginning at 256 MB. Sandisks previous highest capacity was 1GB. You will be able to insert it into the SD card reader and use it in your Axim as well as in your phone.
Of course you can put it into a SD reader and use it in your Axim! The picture shows it with the adapter! And my Sandisk MobileMate SD reader has MSD/TF slot as well, so I don't even need the adapter to use it in my reader.
Radical; I wonder if there is a MicroSD to MiniSD adapter? The wife's phone takes Mini. Of course, it would be more economical to get a mini 2GB.

PB, even if there is an adapter to go from microSD to miniSD, you'll want to check very closely before you buy the 2GB for your wife's phone. I bought a 2GB miniSD when I got my new phone in May and of course my phone (LG VG9800) couldn't read it. It took reading Howards Forum to discover that my phone would only go to 1GB.

Move along. There's nothing to read here.
Very nice, I don't know that I would go that large for that card, but it's nice to know that the capacity has increased. My cell phone does use the transflash, same thing as micro sd. I have a couple of 256 mb cards and they are doing a fine job. with 1.3 mega pixel camera, all is good.
With the new phones that can take video, and higer resolution pics, the larger capacity will be better for them.
I have many Sandisk products and all are working just great, no problems.
Had an LG phone, worst for picking up signals out all the cell phones I've had, Motorlola, Samsung, and LG. Probably will not go back to LG, as long as Motorola and Samsung provides what best suits my needs.
I can barely keep track of my battery, SD and CF cards. Can you imagine how quickly I could lose something that I have to have my glasses on just to see :yelrotflm

Luckily, I already got her a 1GB mini, and she doesn't really need any more than that. Even though I rerouted the photos and movies to the card, she'll never fill it. But yeah, good idea to research your model and see what the maximum size card that has been tested is. Often times, you will see a limit printed for your model that seems conspicuously low. This is because that was the largest card available at the time of the product's release! Anything bigger has to be determined by testing.
It's basically a scam by the chip makers and phone builders. SD cards are the perfect size in general. Not too small and not too big/thick. I'm sure that Sandisk/Lexar created these formats (miniSD, microSD) to force consumers to buy more since there is probably a saturation point of consumers owning SD cards from PDAs to cell phones. I'm also sure that the phone makers may have gotten a discount on memory chips for using these new formats too.
I have so many SD cards that now I'n not sure what to do with. Each new generation of smartphones uses a different format. My x50v (SD) then switched to Cingular 8125 (miniSD) and now I heard that the next version of the 8125 uses microSD. Which means that my collection of miniSD's will of course be useless.
hmm, it's good to see a 2 gig capacity, but i dont see the point in all these new formats they come up with.
i've got a 1gig SD card in my axim that does just fine (holds apps, data, gps etc) can't say i'll be bothering with the micro sd tbh
You dont have much of a choice if you get a new pda or phone. I went from the axim x50v to the cingular 8125 and couldnt use my SD and had to switch to miniSD. The next "8125" uses microSD making my miniSD useless. Thats the point, it keeps sandisk, lexar happy.
