akheron.... one of the reasons it is fast is because of the method in how CorePlayer is developed. Skins for example were scrapped 2x before we came up with the current Universal Skins system. This was mostly because of load time and extendability factor. To simply make a .txt file showing where x,y is for a button was not good enough so we created an XML parser from scratch then began to write the universal skins.
A larger benefit to this is we now have an incredibly fast embedded XML parser now that works on all our platforms... while to the outside person this might not seem like a big deal... it is to us as many of the CORE functions of the player will go through this parser... from our upcoming Nefertiti XML playlist feature to parsing controls for UPNP. etc.
Let me comment on the what ppl are posting on what they DONT LIKE.... dont 'hate' on us before its even launched pls. One of the biggest things we have and will continue to do is push simplicity... while CorePlayer may have alot of features being added to 1.xx. If do not want to use them then don't... but if you do they are there...
Hey... I have an idea.... want the player to look a certain way? Make a skin and omit EVERYTHING you dont want... all the way from the menu items to the options menu itself. Thats the kind of power I am talking about giving the end user.
akheron.... on the size... we hope to get it down to about 1.2MB by v1.4 as it is mostly the size of the MS code for WMA and WMV that is causing the current increase.
betaboy and coreplayer - I would buy CorePlayer in a heartbeat and you guys do a great job! ... but may I please, please, please ask you to try to overcome the .avi Motion JPEG playback problems that many of us have with playing the native .avi files that come with Canon digital cameras.
Specifically, the 640x480 @ 30 FPS.
It hiccups and drops massive frames. No amount of massaging would help unfortunately.
If this could be done I would forever be grateful. :)
This is not the fault of the player, BetaPlayer,TCPMP, CorePlayer or any other.
640x480 at 30 fps simply places too great a load on the processor - even a 624 Mhz.
I always encode my .avi files at 15 fps and they play perfectly with no trace of jittering or flicker. I leave the processor speed on "Auto" but it usually uses 208 Mhz. There is a very slight unevenness when credit titles are scrolling vertically at the end of a movie, but I can live with this. 30 fps is totally unnecessary.

That sounds REALLY cool. I just hope that skinning isn't too hard for the average user who doesn't use Photoshop enough to know how to make really cool graphics (I'm thinking of skins and meters for programs like SBSH PB, Wisbar, etc - those require some serious photoshop work, or at least the better ones do, if I'm not mistaken).
One other question: this sounds like it's going to be a pretty big release, not just for PPC and Palm users who currently have PDA's, but also manufacturers who are going to start installing the CorePlayer on their devices before selling them (correct me if I'm wrong - I just seem to remember a post from you several months back that seemed to indicate that this might happen...?). Anyhow, my real question is whether having all of these people suddenly using your software and all of the issues with support, is it going to take the people at CC "away" from this community? I hope not, because that'd be sad :(.
Ok I know I will be bohhh'd out of here with this nubie question...but in simple terms...why do I need this program. I convert my Tivo shows/ DVD's using pocketDVD and watch them on WM, my music plays on there etc. What are you guys doing that WM can't handle? Not poking...really want to learn more :)

Well, WM just hasn't got many useful features compared to Core (or TCPMP). You don't have to bother to reencode your videos if you have a large memory card (with the exception of DVDs of course), you just copy them over, or stream them from the web. And there is very good codec support which will become a even better with the Core release on monday I hope.
phendric .... community is what CoreCodec is about and will always be that way.... it was for DivX when I created DivX.com and then left because they were moving away from the social aspect of things..... there is a 'right' way to do things... and never out growing that 'touch' is key to a successful online community no less a business.

I kind of figured as much, from everything I've observed from CC, but just wanted to make sure :). That's really good to know!
Now, just as long as your servers don't get overloaded on Monday w/lots of people wanting to purchase CorePlayer immediately, I'll be able to do the same! :)
I plan to purchase this simply because it has been the best software I have every used on a portable device. Even though my Zodiac with TCPMP is long-gone, I still use it on my Axim today and it has never done me wrong. So even though what I have works fine, I will be paying for this new version simply as a thanks for a job well done! It's the finest portable software, free or otherwise.
