There are only a few things that can be loaded that early in the reset cycle. I am using CalliGrapher 8.4 SIP set to Write Anywhere, Fitaly Startup (backup SIP), iLauncher Safe Mode (which saved my bacon), Wireless and Bluetooth icons, plus the rest of the normal system processes.
I tried both VGA versions, and tried loading them both in Built-in Storage and RAM. No difference in behavior for any of these setups.

My guess would be CalliGrapher SIP that is clashing with PS! PS has its' own 'virtual SIP' that it uses, and if CalliGrapher is trying to intercept that, this could be the problem!
If you would like to try again, this time try disabling CalliGrapher until PS is loaded! For sure there is no issue with iLauncher, as I use this all of the time, as well as the BT & WiFi....
Well, I'll give it a try. Even if this turns out to be true, I'm not willing to give up CalliGrapher for PS. Will you work to resolve the conflict, if it checks out?

Understandable! But of course I'll try to find a solution. I would like PS to "play nice" with all apps, so if there is a conflict, I'll DL a copy and run some tests! :approve:
I believe that I've earned my beta tester rating today. I've been working on this for over two hours. Here's what I learned:
The problem was not CalliGrapher 8.4 nor Fitaly 4. It turned out to be a shortcut that doesn't appear in the Start directory, but DOES appear in the Start backup folder that iLauncher creates when going into Safe Mode. The shortcut is called slrboot.lnk and executes ""\Windows\SEUni.exe" boot". This belongs to Paragon Software's SlovoEd5 Webster's Collegiate Dictionary. The dictionary has a "Word of the Day" feature which I have turned off but it still runs every day. I could never figure out why until now because the file doesn't show up in the Start directory.
Once I moved slrboot.lnk out of the Start directory, Pocket Secure 4 seems to work fine.
Another problem, though. I wanted to install PS4 in Built-in Storage, but the install program is non-standard and never asked where I wanted the program. It is now eating my valuable RAM. How do I move it to BIS?
I hate to be shameless, but if I decide that PS4 will work for me over the next 3 days, do I now get a beta tester discount?

Good job Tanker-
I have used the SlovoEd 5 dictionaries before and noticed the same "issue" with the word of the day. I don't think I ever kept it on (coincidentally) when I used PS, though, so never had this issue.
I'm not sure why, but I think Joe has said that PS must be installed in main memory for all of the security features to work. (I'm guessing he'll explain that soon in this thread.)
More important than the discount, PS users and potential users would benefit from you being on the beta team--IMHO.
Doesn't sound like an easy thing to track down, but great work... I do agree with xdalaw, that you would be a great beta tester! I do appreciate that you didn't just give up, but kept with it until solved!
It is true that PS must be installed into main memory. Couple of reasons there. First, BIS is too slow to track all the images that need loaded! Also, the 'Inactivity' feature did not test well in BIS.
A storage card wouldn't work, because that could be removed and unlock the security!
The solution to PS taking up memory space was found recently using UPX. The program size is reduced to less then 25% of the original! Not only are there no issues or malfunctions using this, but the speed of the program functions are also improved! Win...Win! :)
A discount? But of course! You have a PM.....

I was suspicious of why it took so much memory with the UPX compression, so I poked around a bit. It turns out that the CAB file didn't delete at the end of the install. With that gone, the loss of RAM is tolerable.
The UPX compression makes a big difference! The PortableApps.com folks use it to get most of the OpenOffice.org suite on a USB stick, as well as speed its loading off of the stick. It works well there, too.
Anyway, another mystery solved.

Makes sense. Thanks for the explanation.

I guess you were writing your note while I was writing mine to Andrew. Agree on UPX. Its compression really is amazing on binary files.
If you guys keep pressuring me to beta test, you'll end up with a bunch of additional feature suggestions. Be careful what you ask for...
