I've updated this morning and the Axim has been running smoothly so far. The first thing you will notice during the windows setup is that it is as fast as WM2003SE, and even during normal use the axim is faster than my A01 rom with all the patches. Simply awesome!
Just try it guys, you won't go back to WM2003SE again!
For Dell: even if we got this update after 2 years, have to say THANKS!
I never thought that we would see this day in a million years. I'm certainly glad to see this update. I guess Dell got tired of exchanging X50s with X51s.
As explained before I have a French A02 ROM and so it refuses to upgrade to this new ROM.
I juste get then a WM2003 english A05 ROM, change the language in header (:hide: ) as described somewhere in this forum and suceed to get a WIN2003 EN A05 version running (apparently fine) :approve:
I have then tried to upgrade to this new posted ROM and than I got message saying invalid data packet received on my axim. I have tried 2 times without suceess. :realmad:
Did I miss something ?
Is this new update only valid for users that have already WM2005 installed ?
Is there an upgrade somewhere for going from WM2003 to WM2005 ?
Anybody know if the WM5 upgrade and this update process requires pressing any of the app buttons or d-pad? My buttons don't work. I have a replacement coming from Dell that should be here today or tomorrow, but I don't want to wait :-)

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe you need the WM5 Cd upgrade installed before you can use the new update:approve:

I went back and dug up one of my old posts from the forums over at PocketPC Thoughts just to recall what problems I was having when I tried to upgrade my x50v to WM 5.0 the first time (about a year ago). This is what I found...
"I have had most of the problems mentioned in this thread since I upgraded.
I have had problems with the device no longer seeing my CF card, not turning on without a soft reset, unexpected hard resets, VERY sluggish performance, decreased battery life, screen redraw issues (especially in ListPro), decreased BlueTooth functionality, application incompatibilities, and some of the ActiveSync 4.0 issues. The only one I have not yet experienced is the complete battery drain (though I am using PocketPlus).
The only real positives that I can think of are the new office applications, and the new memory model.
There are threads that list potential fixes for some of these issues, but I am really starting to wonder what the real benefit of having WM5 is, even if it ran perfectly. What are we really gaining????
I haven't rolled back yet, but I am on my third hard reset and beginning to lose patience."
After re-reading that post and recalling all of the issues I had the first time I tried to upgrade my device, I think I am going to wait until I see how this upgrade goes for those brave enough to jump in.
Also, this does raise the question (at least for me): what is really to be gained by running WM 5.0 instead of WM 2003 SE? Other than the new memory model, is there really any compelling reason to upgrade? I am running SoftMaker Office, so the improved PocketOffice apps are not important. What is the current state of BT on WM 5.0?
I just upgraded and my Axim X50v is quite fast now with no patches! I've only been using it for about an hour, but I've had no trouble with it so far except for my Bluetooth headphones dropping a second after starting WMP playback. However, I was able to fix that by installing the WIDCOMM Bluetooth stack. Unless something unexpected comes up, this update is great! Great job, Dell!

As someone who is still running WM2003SE, what are the advantages to upgrading to WM5 on the x50v?
Doug,
I've found thus far that the only real advantage to upgrading for me is that as developers start to only support WM5 (for example, Math Tablet + XCAS works better on WM5, PI 2007 only syncs with FC's PlanPlus with WM5, etc) I'll have the OS.

I would also be interested in hearing from folks who have installed this update. Does it solve the previous problems with the WM5 update? If so, now might be a good time to jump in.
Doug
see MyPDA...in short, yes, it solves all of the problems I was having with A01.
