As explained before I have a French A02 ROM and so it refuses to upgrade to this new ROM.
I juste get then a WM2003 english A05 ROM, change the language in header (:hide: ) as described somewhere in this forum and suceed to get a WIN2003 EN A05 version running (apparently fine) :approve:
I have then tried to upgrade to this new posted ROM and than I got message saying invalid data packet received on my axim. I have tried 2 times without suceess. :realmad:
Did I miss something ?
Is this new update only valid for users that have already WM2005 installed ?
Is there an upgrade somewhere for going from WM2003 to WM2005 ?
Thanks,
Jekkil
I assume that when you say "French A02 ROM" that you're talking about WM2003SE? You'll only be able to update to WM5 if you purchased the original WM5 update.
I believe this WM5 A02 update will be released sometime...I don't know when...but hopefully here in a couple of weeks or so...
What a coincidence that I looked on here today after many months. However, after installing 5.0 and going back, and reinstalling and going back, and reinstalling and applying all of the fixes, I will wait for you all on the Bleeding Edge to try this out and report back. I don't mind the ROM install part. It's just reinstalling all of my apps. is not fun. And if it does not work well I will have to do it all again.
That brings up another question, will you be able to go from ROM A02 back to ROM A01, or will you have to go back to 2003SE and then to WM5 ROM A01? I don't expect an answer on this now, I'm just thinking ahead.
My X50v with WM 5.0 system works OK, but is sometimes slugish and needs a soft reset after the battery goes dead, which happens often. I have never (knocking on wood) had memory card issues or WiFi issues. All of the software I use seems to work as advertised.
Unrelated: Does anyone know of a good cheep or free replacement for Switchbar that will load at start up?
i am not even sure where my WM5 upgrade CD is . . . i have been very happy with my X50v running WM2003SE and will need some really good reports here before i go digging for the upgrade disc.
i am hoping it works out well . . . this time i am going to wait and see.

I do know where both of my WM5 Upgrade CDs are, but I am with you on waiting to see how it all pans out.
Does anyone know if there is a fall-back image yet? To return to WM2003SE?
Also, will ActiveSync 4.2 be sufficient, or is the Beta 4.5x needed?

Active Sync doesn't recognize my Device as X50v. Only as Windows Mobile Based Device. The problem is that because of that I think the transmissio speed between the axim and pc is slower.
Maybe its just a problem based on active sync or just my pc. I'll try another one
im thinking now that maybe Dell will release an upgrade cd with a02 already on it as opposed to using the a01 cd then downloadin a02 and installin that.
This might be off topic but I'm sure it can be answered quickly enough... Where the heck do I get WM5 for my x50v? I have WM2003SE, I'd like to upgrade... do I call Dell? Does it cost money? Thanks.
just check on the dell website man. you do have to pay for it. it may have been taken off of the website because of so many problems. you could always check ebay, im sure that they are going for cheep there.
I find myself wondering...why now? Current rumor mongering had Dell and pretty much everyone leaving the PDA space anyway. So why would Dell finally release the update at this late date? Are they trying to kiss and make up? Or is this just the intertia of a dieing X50/X51 program slowly winding itself down?

It could be housekeeping before shutting down the line. It is more likely that they have had most of it for awhile now and that they were normalizing A02 (X50V) with A12 (X51V). Or, it could just be a preemptive move against the class action suit, too. Probably some combination of the three.
And, hey, maybe it will work.
