You are of course right, this device offers nothing that other devices couldn't do. Anyway - you miss the point, because these other devices are totally not cool. You have to be a real geek to use them and it's still hard and time-consuming to use everything they offer. Ever tried to use the Axim IE to read news in the internet? It's such a pain in the neck even to set the Wi-Fi connection, not to mention the IE itself etc.
Apple makes all those things possible for everyone, and usable in an easy way. Apple makes all those things cool! And look cool, too
That's why the IPod is more successful than any other MP3-player and that's why the IPhone will be a great success.

My issue with that is: Translated from ("Apple makes all those things possible for everyone, and usable in an easy way. Apple makes all those things cool! And look cool, too") into ("Now idiots can get on the internet wirelessly and look cool doing it")
There is no way apple makes WAP parameters and keys cool and easy to enter in any real way that isn't already done on an axim (or whatever)
As far is issues with IE compared to what Apple will do, it is called a different browser, their browser is different that IE, and there are different browsers available on PPC devices... try to put a different browser on the iPhone.

Of course, that's what you call marketing. They are going to say anything to sell. Why are some people bothered by it? What is it to them if the iPhone becomes successful? You may own a device or devices that are best for you, but you cannot dictate what is best for others. No need for the "mine is better than yours mentality". There are things the Axims can do that the iPhone cannot, and vice versa. If you think your device is better for you then be happy with it. Why is it necessary to criticize another device when all the manufacturer is doing is try to sell it? Their target market is the public, not just he geek minority. A vast majority of people doesn't have the need for a full featured pocket pc. What the iPhone offers is what they need. Add style to the equation and you got a winner in terms of sales (we boldly predict). Don't feel threatened by it, they're not forcing you to buy it.
On a PPC, you have to try this browser, try that one, spend money, next thing happens you have so many browsers installed your memory is full. Or maybe they won't deinstall properly. Don't tell me you didn't have problems finding the right (meaning: working!) software.
Turn on an Apple, no matter whether its an ibook, an ipod or any other apple product - it'll do everything without flaws and it will look beautiful, too.
And since when is the internet only for 'smart people'
Honestly, these iPhone fanatics are getting to me. I have a decked out Axim x51v. Sure, the tech is a few years old, but it is still better than a crapintosh.
^^^
I am no iPhone fanatic, I'm just not one of those people who are affected by it. I don't even own a single Apple device. In fact I own 3 pocket pcs. I just tell it how I see it. Posts like yours is the main reason I made my earlier post. No need for crab mentality. They don't need people like you to buy their product to be successful. And no matter what you do, it's sales will be greater than the axim ever was. Too bad we still have to wait six months before we can prove my point.
What is wrong with a new product? There is more for us to choose from. Like I said, they are not forcing people to buy it.
Of course it will... just look at how popular "The Simple Life" was

Remember that we are talking about Mac not Microsoft. If Mac is running it, it should be pretty amazing. I trust that they will jump leaps and bounds in no time at all.
It seems that the smart phone was working in a slow transition... until now. Maybe I'm disheartened with M$ or maybe I wish that I would make the transition to Mac but I've got a lot of confidence in the direction that Mac is taking.
... My 2 cents!

"Crapintosh"? I'm not a Mac guy but have you been through the struggles that the rest of us X51V users have been through?
Unfortunately for us...
Mac = reliable
Microsoft = reliable problems

Apple shows us how things should have been in the first place.
Microsoft makes a lot of money by converting the Apple OS for the PC. Every improvement Microsoft implement into Windows has been done before by Apple. Sure, the PC as well as the PPC give you a lot of possiblities - on the hardware side. But in reality, the software make a lot of these possibilities unusable for the 'normal user'.
In an Apple product, software and hardware work together.
The user can use anything the hardware offers easily thanks to the software.
Apple improves our lives.

This sounds suspicously like a Apple follower. Ya, it works right out of the box (so does PCs). You tried installing 3rd party apps on it?
>Apple improves our lives.
and cripples computing power in the mean time. I can get a PC with 10x the power of the iMac right now.
I hate brand fanboys.
"oh no, Apple released iPhone! It must be the best! Apple makes the best stuff around! It beats every mobile out there!"
* Oh, when you get the iPhone, make sure to check out CamcorderInfo.com's review on the Panasonic PV-GS400. I want to see how badly the iPhone browser smite itself.
I don't own any apple devices, because I like to figure out things.
My opinion was the same as yours: PCs are so much faster at the same price - why buy an apple?
Have you ever summed up the time you spent to get all your PCs working? Including all the external devices? Nowadays it's not too hard to get a printer running. But 5 years ago? On a Mac it was simple 15 years ago.
What about recording realtime video? A pain in the neck to find the software that is working with my hardware. Spent money and a lot of time! Not with Apple I found out later!
PCs are more userfriendly today because Apple proved userfriendlyness to be possible.
You don't have to be an Apple-fan to appreciate what they accomplished
