In other news, Hell has not frozen over yet, but it very well may.
According to sources who have so far filed accurate reports on Apple's future hardware plans, the company is feverishly working on a two-button wireless optical mouse that it intends to release.
Apple enthusiasts have longed for an Apple-branded two-button mouse for over a decade, but their requests have gone unanswered. So what has changed? According to sources, 'it's the company."
With Apple now profiting from low-priced consumer electronics as it makes a push to reclaim market share from Windows, a two-button mouse is 'almost an essential,' sources said.
It's unclear when the computer maker plans to introduce the mouse. Insiders warned that anticipation may continue to build for months as the company perfects the product.
Apple has just recently reduced the price of its wired mouse to $29 and its wireless optical mouse to $59. The two-button wireless optical mouse would likely debut at the $69 price point once reserved for the company's current wireless mouse.
"Jaws will drop," said one insider.

As first predicted by AppleInsider in March, Apple today introduced Mighty Mouse, its next generation mouse with multiple buttons and a scroll ball.
Mighty Mouse offers power users up to four independently programmable buttons, without compromising simplicity for users who prefer just a single-button mouse. Mighty Mouse also introduces an ingenious Scroll Ball that lets users scroll in any direction—vertically, horizontally and even diagonally. With the Scroll Ball, users can scroll with natural, fluid movements, making Mighty Mouse perfect for applications from viewing web pages and photographs, to video editing and music creation.
.....
Mighty Mouse is the first multi-button mouse that retains the simplicity of a single-button mouse, and can be used as a single- or multi-button mouse depending on the user’s preference. Mighty Mouse features a single seamless enclosure with programmable touch sensors that act as primary or secondary buttons. With a simple click on the upper right or left side of the mouse, users can instantly access features such as contextual menus found in Mac OS X and other applications. Mighty Mouse’s two other buttons are activated by pressing its Scroll Ball and squeezing its sides, and can be easily programmed to give users one-click access to Mac OS X version 10.4.2 “Tiger” features such as Spotlight , Dashboard and Exposé, or to launch any application such as Safari or iChat.
Mighty Mouse features an easy-to-use design that comfortably fits the left or right hand and an optical tracking engine for responsive and accurate cursor movement on almost any type of surface. With up to four programmable buttons, Mighty Mouse makes it easy to access key features of Tiger with the side buttons and Scroll Ball providing quick, one-click access to Spotlight, Dashboard and Exposé.
Same site, a few months apart. I don't know why Apple haters goes to such extent as to dig up an older article just to criticize Apples technology and neglect any positive aspects of the company just to prove their point. I'm not an Apple lover, in fact I don't own any Apple products (not even an iPod) but this "Apple hate thing" is getting ridiculous.
Either that or to second Howard2K's sentiments

Well, I do have to admit that Apple's ads work.
Sometimes I wonder whether the i in iMac, iPod, iPhone stands for idiot. Hear me out. For years, Apple has been selling desktop machines with only one button mice. Finally, after dealing with several Mac fans "forced" to use a computer at work, it struck me how simple the design was. These "Mac-lifers" had trouble using two-button mice. With the Mac, you can't get it wrong! There is only one button. Any idiot can click it.

It does not have any expansion slots for either an SD or CF card and from what I read it does not support 3rd party applications. It's cool but not quite what I need. I'll stick with my ax.
To get vaguely back on topic, yes the iPhone looks like a nice bit of kit. I'm not convinced by some of it, and it may be that their 3rd or 4th iteration (like the iPods) is the one worth buying. The lack of third party development, the price, and the lack of a keypad are all things that, for me, could be a deal-breaker.

Radimus. Apple chose not to MANUFACTURE multi button mice until fairly recently, but the support within the OS has been there for many years.
Just like Microsoft don't manufacture digital cameras, but they are obviously still supported in the OS and have been for years.
I know they are supported, I supported an office of over 50 of macs... until I replaced them all with PCs. The issue was one of Apple's decisions, not of a Mac's capabilities.
Apple didn't want multi-button mice until recently... just like they don't want a tactile kbd on the iphone...
Once again, it is the decisions of the company and their efforts to lock you into those decisions by not allowing you to have expansions or customizations.
Undoubedly, the phone will be rock solid and not a crash to be found... and it will only do what what it came with out of the box. Not something that anyone that has used a PDA will want.
So it is a ipod with a built in phone and a big glass screen. So what.

All those Apple-haters prove the point I am trying to get accross, which is exactly on the topic:
They are afraid that Apple's new gadget makes their machine worthless, plus all the time they put into making their machines work. They are afraid that the iphone is the holy grail.

This whole thing is silly. Everybody is so worried about whether their device of choice is the best. Honestly - what difference does it make? Just buy the one that does the job the best for your particular situation and enjoy using the thing!
The only real reason to "champion" one type of device over another is if you own stock in the company that makes one of them! If not ... then what's the point?

I am not an apple guy for PCs because [warning concept ahead] to me Apple makes appliance like devices (like PC versions of toasters), from a PC what I want is more like a heat source. Now the blinded by the facts people are freak'n cause I just said I was going to heat my house with a PC. [/warning concept ahead] To me a cell phone is an appliance and this Iphone is a phone that looks as close to my axim as I have seen. I like the BIG screen and lack of buttons. What would concern me is the usual incompatibilities like having different file formats, not syncing Outlook, need to use Itunes, etc. I have enough trouble without my toys not talking to each other properly. So, I guess I am on the fence.

Finnish computing mag DigiToday compares Apple iPhone, Nokia N95 and HTC P3300:
The Web is full of reports on iPhone (see for example David Shier's excellent report here). Finnish language sources, however, may cause problems for the vast majority of my readership; this is why I’ve decided to post a quick note on DigiToday’s latest article, which also contains an easily digestable chart of three “big players”: Nokia’s forthcoming all-in-one device, the N95; iPhone and, finally, HTC’s GPS-, Wi-Fi / BT- and FM radio-enabled, albeit, in some respects, really lacking (no 3G) P3300.
The article / chart can be found here. Some not-that-evident chart translations you may need:
Näyttö: screen; Tuumaa: inches
160 pikseliä tuumalle: 160 pixel/inch; väriä: colors
Tiedonsyöttö: input method; kosketusnäyttö: touch screen; näppäimistö: hardware buttons / controls
Tallennusmuisti: storage memory
Muut yhteydet: other connectivity
Käyttöjärjestelmä: OS
Puheaika: talking time; t (tunti(a)): hours
Saatavuus: availability; myynnissä: being sold; kesäk: June
Muuta: other stuff
BTW, as far as iPhone-related discussions on Finnish boards are concerned, there are quite a few of them (as opposed to, unfortunately, Pocket PC’s). Of them, I recommend THIS the most (it’s in English).
OK, to clarify a few things, number one is that it does not run a full desktop version of mac osx. It runs a pocket pc type version, slightly defeatured, I have not heard officially yet if it runs mac os x applications, but I have heard unofficial reports that all mac os x apps will run on it
