That seems to be sort of true now- Their X51 Low model is now sort of "hidden" from the rest of the PDA pack on their website and their low model is now at $225- which I believe is the same amount as the X50 Low was when it was about to be retired.

LOL. I went Mac about 2 years ago. Tried Palm, but the TX I bought a week ago had SERIOUS issues with random resets, particularly with the Blazer browser. SO that ones out, they are no longer making/selling the LifeDrive anymore, The OS is close to 4 years old with NO update in sight (OS6-Linux from Access information was given 3 years ago, but are not making it now.) The other Palms do not have Wifi so they're out as well.

Therfore I just ordered my x51v today and bought The Missing Sync.

It seems that noone wants to make PDAs anymore. It sucks, I know. HP is the only one that seems to be continuing, and even they are lowing their PDA specs.

Guess my Laptop and x51v will have to do until the price of tablets comes down.

Anybody remember when the PDA market was flooded with VGA devices and seemed like they would do nothing but get better? WTF happened? LOL

I am almost certain I'm going UMPC / 12.1" lappys when my X50v bites the dust... Most PDAs now are lacking in one way or another.

Still how can they give up on a product that is considered the best in the market?

Really if these had been commercialized, Dell wouldn't be dropping out. In fact we'd be 5 months in on a X60/X60v.
I could say the same for Palm outside of their Treo line.

Big Smile

in my opinion they only get rid of the name "Axim" and release a new Handheld-device under a brand new name ;)

but seriously: it would be not the first time a company talks about the end of a product end finally they only talked about the name, not the product it self....

I better get mine quick then. So should I purchase a warranty if they are not going to make anymore at all?

Well that's exactly what I was thinking about...
Is it really worth it to get an X51v now?? Now that we're almost sure that it's gonna be discontinued? Which means that's it's soon gonna be outdated and much better products will come out with a similar price!
I'm actually starting to regret that I bought a new X51v just a month ago, instead of waiting to see just a few more months!... :(

Please please tell me that my way of thinking is totally wrong!
How am I wrong?

Well you'll only lose in the US, because there seems to be an anti-Wi-Fi thing rising from carriers (Unless its a top of the line model or a WM device) you'll get alot of crap about getting a data plan and a brick wall for Wi-Fi.

So EU and Asia is good to sit patienly, as for us Americans its get 'n grab before its too late.

It seems like the preferred "stand alone PDAs" are going to the wayside & new PDAphone are sure to be met with contracts and hi data fee charges. T-Mobile may be a future exception with the Ameo, if it is realeased.

Man, well if it really is the end of the line for the Axim, I guess I'm not surprised. It has been a fun ride along the way from my old Clie to my X5 and on. After I got my Axim, I remember seeing products like the Asus MyPal PDAs...I wonder if they're going to keep those up as well.

Aximsitex50icon Clear Signs Dell is Killing the Axim

My x51 mid-range broke two weeks ago, so I got an x51v for USD379 (25% off) and I'm the happiest men alive.

Today I visited the Dell web page and the x51 low has no price but a red tag that says "Please call for latest prices". In some international Dell sites (like Dell UK and Dell Germany) the x51 low has been replaced by a bluetooth GPS, although the picture still shows an axim so at first sight you think it's there, but sadly it's not.

In Dell Latin American sites (Like Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina, etc) the x51 low it's simply not displayed anymore.

In contrast Dell Australia has the x51 low still available online.

I think this is the proof that Dell is pulling the plug on the Axims so for those of us who innocently hope for and upgrade to WM6 I think this is a sad NO.

I had confirmation

I have confirmation from the guy who sold me the Axim (0800 international sales line from Dell) they are discontinuing the Dell Pda because of the "market PDAs situation" he said.

What do you think? We should sell the Axims and try another one? I bought one on Novemenber and I fell I waste my money.

We learned from our Dell representative last week that the X51 is being discontinued mid-February. Our Dell rep said this is it for their PPCs. He also said that its discontinuation will go without announcement. In other words, the announcement will be public AFTER they have already sold all of their units."

This one was sent in from Broomnl and was found here.
