We learned from our Dell representative last week that the X51 is being discontinued mid-February. Our Dell rep said this is it for their PPCs. He also said that its discontinuation will go without announcement. In other words, the announcement will be public AFTER they have already sold all of their units."

So I just purchased the X51v with the 2 year service & complete care package. What happens if it breaks in a year? Will I be able to get a replacement from Dell?
yeah so there will be no more PDAs but they will most likely come out with phone PDA or smart phone or whatever you want to call it. Now the big question is whether the new unit will be as powerful as current axim or will it be a cheap peace of plastic as iphone. What do you guys think?
If Dell would only run another of those specials so I could pick up a X51V for $299 or less (US$), I would be more than happy to assist them in depleting their inventories. ;)

Interesting report (again). I just read and saw on TV a poll that says >90% of users prefer a phone that makes phone calls and maybe text message. The rest is just ribbons and bells. That said, someone will have to make PDA for the rest of us. Dell never got into the blended market and now the PDA market is ready to grow again. Any takers or am I just wishing too hard?

Hmmm.... I was holding out for a gaming Axim, but that doesn't look likely. Instead, I'm looking at the XDA Flame, which is about the same size as the Axim x50v, but has cellular capabilities and a NVidia GoForce 5500 GPU.
More specs are here, but I wonder if it will be upgradable to WM6?
I guess if it has been branded with such an acronym, should we believe this?
Are they really gonna jump ship?
Ugh, to still have one of the best PDAs (Best of the WM PDAs IMO) that hails from 05 and hasn't seen too many competitors, why not advertise/market the thing?
Honestly I never gave a PDA a second thought until I personally seen one in action or "period" for that matter (My 1st witnessed PDA was a LifeDrive btw) and from then on I was a fanatic.
College students would be the best target market for a stand-alone PDA IMO.
Blast, I just bought an X51v. I suppose it's not a big deal though, there's so many PDA's to choose from these days. I just don't like the thought of owning something that isn't supported anymore. The problem I can see with the smart phones is they don't have wi-fi. I hate having to pay a monthly fee when I could go and get my business done in a cafe.
I suppose Dell will come up with something new and flashy though. I can't see them just bailing on the handheld market altogether.

so why would companies such as apple come out with iphones? Why would dell consider a PDA phone and PALM did their thing? What I would really want to see is a poll how many people actually want PDA, Smartphone, or regular phone.
