I know personally that Dell has a Tablet PC available but not advertised. My old employer ordered 2 of them and I left the company before they were recieved. This was two years ago.
Dell resells Motion Computing Tablet PCs, not their own. Motion was started by ex-Dell employees so it is about as close to a Dell Tablet PC as you can get.
Dell will only release a Tablet PC when it becomes a commodity and I think that day is coming soon assuming demand is there. I wouldn't hold you breath just yet.

They have them I am sure, you just have to call the business line and ask for one. Maybe they are only available to companies. That is a possibility.
They are available to both home and business users.
Very sad news Chris. Wow, I can't picture this. Dell has decided to do this. Dell is an awsome company for the PDA develoment. Looks like we are not getting the X71. . Looks like Dell isn't going to change this thought. So they are stopping the develoment right after all of their units are sold. How sad. :( .

Chris, you won't have to change the name "Aximsite", because there are a lot of us Axim users still around, and if Dell dumps the Axim, we know that you won't dump us. Dell has never been the place that I go for answers, I come to Aximsite. And it looks like we all need Aximsite a lot more, now than ever before!
thats a shame, but if the axim fades out i am not bothered. the x51v is definetly one of the better devices out there, and as many people have already said, it has good hardware. sure, you might get the odd problem here and there (i have not had any big issues with the device) but thats what we got this site for here.
if i am to get another device, the newly released htc athena/advantage will probably be my next pick. the specs are just as good as the axim, plus more. if the device can run on a cellular network, then if i ever plan on getting cellular service here, they can hook me up (all of my ISP/phone companys devices are blackberrys and a few treos). lets just hope this thing can be ordered to canada.
I personally am not surprised by this and it all fits together like a snugly-fitting puzzle. Microsoft has migrated away from supporting stand-alone devices like the Dell Axim. Windows Mobile 6 clearly demonstrates this in that it is specifically coded for phone-based devices. I'm sure that Microsoft advised all the OEMs a long time ago about that (so that they could develop the appropriate hardware to mate with the OS if they wanted).
Dell has never been interested in doing a phone-based device, so the decision to shut down the Axim line was a sealed and determined fate the moment Microsoft decided to develop exclusively for phone-based devices.
Of course, even though it makes sense, it is no less of a disappointment. I've always thought that the merging of the phone with the PDA (and the mini-laptop it had evolved into) to be a compromise I wasn't willing to make. I never want to be tied to a particular cell network because of the PDA I use; if I want to quit the contract, I have to buy another device? Yuck! I'd rather wear 2 devices to divorce those 2 conflicting interests from one another.
All the same, thank you for the confirmation of our suspicions!

Yeah, What they said. I'm one of theose NexTel people and would be left out completely with a converged device. If they came out with a converged unit that has PTT feature, I'd jump on it at any price. For no other reason than I feel I am being pushed into a converged device.

I'd like to see "Aximsite" name hang around too.... feels like "home"

:rolling: Nextel here too... I'm not not big on converged devices.... but I wish they'd offer something with WM 6 :)
