The Dutch Dell website doesn't make very clear what is available and what isn't anymore. On the consumer pages only the GPS bundle is still available. (it even still shows a chioce between the X51 and X51v when one goes into the configuration part) On the Non-profit/government pages, only the X51 is still available.
I sure hope my X50v will last for the years to come, as I don't see a real replacement lurking at the horizon.
Still here in the UK.. but then we had the x30 for months after you did...

Wow, they finally killed it. I knew it was only a matter of time. I still use my x50v every day and i LOVE IT and can't live without it (i can't believe i just said that about a piece of electronics).
Anyhow, i'm writing just to give some hope to the hard-core geeks on this site who think that this is "the end of the world". IT's NOT!
I was fortunate enough to be one of the many Modeo Smartphone beta testers in NYC. That smartphone device was so handy, small, powerful and functional, i didn't touch my axim for a month and a half (the duration of the beta test). After coming back to the Axim, i realized this:
The screen on the Axim is sick compared to any smartphone, but everything else is rather inconvenient. I hate that i have to carry so many devices with me on the subway. I hate that my contacts always have to be updated on my phone or my pda (vice versa).
Lets use this occassion to look into a fantastic smartphone that is to smartphone's what the axim was to PDAs. Let's face it, the pda market is practicly dead (though i heard a rumor about PalmOS and it's new Linux based OS). These PDAs are too large to carry around everywhere and most of us need a cell phone as well. As technology advances, so should we.
WE DON'T NEED HUGE PDAs ANYMORE when there are smartphones that can do it all and then some. I'm in the market for a cutting-edge phone now... are you?
I use my X51V as a Pocket PC first and then as a PDA. Guess I will have to look at HP products again. I had a iPaq 4150 prior to my X51V but switched for the screen, ROM based OS vs RAM and the amount of internal memory.
Sad to see it go. I had the x30h; there were too many negative posts on here for me to upgrade to the x50V or the X51V. Now, I'm even more sad, as my x30 died a few days ago. I think I'll go back to my old planner, and wait for the iphone. I've had palm devices, and tried an HP product, but I have to say my Axim was by far the best, and I don't want to go back to something I feel is inferior. Aximsite really helped me get a lot out of my handheld, and I'm so glad it was available. It made my time with my Axim much more productive.
Thanks!
:approve:
I'm not too worried. I still have working units, all have a specific purpose. ipaq 4150 for GPS (geocaching, hiking, navigation) due to it's superb battery life, X51V for gaming, internet, ebooks. One device die, other one takes over. If they all die, there are still capable units out there. I believe most of us can adapt to anything out there. It's not the end for me.

To me this is a bit sad because the community was built around the Axim. Sure there might be other devices that are comparable but none that will unify and inspire a community like the Axim did.
My X5 is still alive and kicking (wife uses it now) and my X51v is used every single day without question. Give me a 624Mhz CPU, tons of RAM and VGA (and Mobipocket) and I'll be a happy camper.
As a side note, HP devices are all non-VGA and are WAY overpriced IMHO. Oh well.

This community was built around people using Axims, not the device. The growth of this site I believe is about people helping people with tips and problems pertaining to the Axim. The success of this site I believe is mostly because of a job well done by Chris and the rest of the Aximsite crew+ members, and has little to do with the device itself. Compare this site to that of Dell's website, same device - different success...I think you know what I mean. Don't worry, worst thing that can happen is that this site will be merged with mobility site. That's not even a bad thing.
My point is plain and simple. The Axim is dead, we have to move on. It doesn't matter how expensive the other devices are, we have no choice but to either accept and adapt to them or not to use any at all. Beggars can't be choosers. There are more important things in life that matters more than the Axim's death.
This Monday I ask for a quote of 10 x51 (520mhz) to my dell account manager. On Tuesday I received a quote for 10 x51v at the same prize, and a note saying that they run out of x51.
Today , my dell account manager called me telling that they run out of x51v too ( they had 300 on Monday but they were sold) and the only have 30 x51 (412mhz no wifi) and asked me if I wanted a quote for them... as I did want the quote, she asked me to hold one hour for it.
One hour later, I received an email from her telling me that she has been communicated that dell no longer has Axim to sell.
Original mail from the account manager for Mexico:

Lamento decirte que nos acaban de comunicar que ya no tenemos Axims disponibles para la venta.
Cualquier otro requerimiento seguimos a la orden.
Gracias y que termines de tener un buen dia!
I'm glad I have an x51v for myself, but this is a terrible loss.
I couldn't have done nearly as much with, or enjoyed my Axim as much without this site. Its too bad if Dell is discontinuing the device. Looking at their web site, it also looks like they're fazing out the televisions as well, starting with the larger models. Now they're offering Sony's.....
Anyway, keep Aximsite up as long as you can. It has been a real help and invaluable resourse for many of us.
