Thanks Chris for keeping us posted. And for the many years and tireless effort you have put into this Aximsite.........I for one have really used this site for for prepurchase reviews, information, links to other sites, info about other sites and General PPC info..........you are Appreciated:approve:!!!!!It is sad to have the :hide:Final Word that the Axim will go the way of the TRS-80 or Commodore 64!!!! I still use mine extensively and will as long as I can...I am NOT a Fan of the Composite PDA/Phone. If any part failed I would lose a phone as well as my PDA. Smartphones just are not there yet!
I am not completely clear on why some people still feel that PDA/Phones are not quite there. If you look at devices like what HTC and O2 have made, they come close to what the Axim X51 (non v) is. The processor is around 400MHZ, expandable memory, bluetooth, WIFI, WM 5 (some even 6!!) and plus it can make calls! I love my Axim but like other people have mentioned, it's so annoying to have my pockets filled with electronics. I understand with convergence comes a little less performance in each device that has been converged, but it's a small price I am willing to pay to have that comfort.
The PDA has served its purpose for quite some years since the original Palm (earliest device I am familiar with) and now it's time to move on to a more versatile device that keeps me always connected, not just when I happen to be in a HotSpot.
Dell isn't stupid to continue pushing a stand alone PDA when they know the future is in PDA/phones. I don't intend on praising the iPhone when I say this, but it's definitely a sign that this is what the consumers what.
I don't like to see this happen a wonderful product line is being discontinued, why does dell seem to feel the need to do this to all its loyal patriotic Axim users! :exc:I have a question Chris, will they be making a windows mobile 6 update for the Axims?:exc:

However, there are many of us who do not want a converged device at all.
