I agree with people comments about the convergence. Right now I'm looking to replace my Dell Axim X30H for the HTC P3600, the only thing is in my country they don't sell HTC, so I have to wait till July when I have to make a bussiness trip to Las Vegas... HP Software forum...
So far so good till it lasts

Axim X30H (October 29th 2004)
Full PPC user right now,I love my Axim
personally I think that the Axim was the only redeeming thing Dell produced. Now that it's gone I won't touch them with a 10' pole. Their larger flat screens are ok, but there are better for the money. I lend my voice to a general Dell boycott. Not just because of the Axim debacle, but because they are purveyors of general high tech trash at this point.
Over the years I've owned several Palm devices, and then switched to an Axim x50v which I used for approximately 2 years.
I'm now using a Treo and honestly regret the money I wasted on the Axim because things "just work" on my Treo. It's simple, easy, gets the job done, and does it well. I really can't say that about the Axim. The whole WM5 upgrade left a bad taste in my mouth as well.
Dell does Laptops and Desktops well, and I won't think twice about purchasing either from Dell again. As far as a PDA/Converged device however, it will most likely be a Palm for quite some time.
C'mon guys ... let's not get too wound up over this. I like my X50, too ... it's lasted 2.5 years (and still works fine) - but it was a business decision, that's all. Boycotting Dell is going to do nothing but waste your time - think they really care?
I just bought a Dimension E520 in December - sweet box just like my X50.

Sometimes we just take this WAY too seriously!

Hit the nail on the head.
First off, were I working for Dell and received the e-mail that started this thread, I'd laugh. You think buying three laptops from Gateway is even a blip on Dell sales? Not a chance. (Also, good luck with those Gateways. The last Gateway laptop I used was total junk.) BTW, I just checked E-bay and there are many X51v for much less than $500. Large corporations are rarely swayed by histrionics.
Too many folks are taking this personally. It's a simple business decision. Obviously, those of us who frequent this site have learned how great the Axim works. If enough other folks had done the same thing, Dell never would have canceled it.
Guys everyone understands that Axim was and still is a great product. But you also have to see from Dell point of view, they were loosing money and or not selling enough. And no matter what you say the market is going toward converged devices. I, myself hate the idea, I am carrying PDA, Phone, iPod, Camera, GPS and etc. Not everyone is love to carry 7 items in their pockets or belt. Which is the reason why Dell left, I am pretty sure the have Engineers that did cost and profit analysis. A company just doesn't leave a product because they are tired of it. Well with that said I say research other devices and see what meets your needs. Simple as that! For example, for me the Nokia N95 looks really appealing. So please stop blaming Dell! If you owned a corporation like Dell you would have made the same decision. I mean not a single person likes to lose money!
the question is what is better? 1 device that can do 7 things very poorly or 7 devices that do 1 thing very well.

Well my friend that is a billion dollar question. The answer is kind of skewed. Who answer the question? The president? The company? The consumers perhaps? The thing of it is that company sells what consumers want. Well I got news for you, CONSUMERS WANT CONVERGED DEVICES. If you think other wise look at the percentage of people owning Standalone and Converged. You will be surprised. Now I understand your pain, it hurts me too, but people you taking things too seriously. I agree with everyone here, but the people who says all other Dell products are crap, come on? What kind of BS is that? Their product has been good for their money! I have 3 24" LCD screens not a single dead pixel. For the people who think I'm defending Dell too much, it is because I truly believe in them and I have stocks, so I really have to believe in them. Thats the only way. I just hope when Dell comes out with great product you guys take back all what you said. And in business it is strictly business, nothing personal.
Sold My used v51x for 380 on ebay. Not bad since I bought it for 324 frm Dell. I am not going to waist time for Dell to supply up dates for next generation. better to cut your loses and give another compnay a try. I will look at iphone, but the 2.5 gen and lack of GPS will elimate that, 500 dolalrs for a 2.5g device is robbery. I am going to give HTC a try with the Kaiser.
I traded in my X50v about 6 months ago for a device that "did it all". I sold the x50v and brought a XDA Orbit (HTC P3300) and i love it.
Its a phone, GPS (TomTom 6), Camera, and runs WM5. It will soon run WM6 as HTC have said they are going to release the upgrade in June of this year. I'm glad that i got rid of the dell and my GPS reciever an my Sony Ericsson w800i. I've now got all that in one small device that works extremely well.
The only way that i could see Dell moving forward in this area is with the introduction of a phone / PDA device but with HTC bringing decent phones out every month, i doubt that Dell would have kept up.
This may have been part of their decision to pull out. Do i blame / hate Dell for this? No, its their choice.
Will i ever buy a product from Dell again? Probably, If they are selling something that i want at the time and they offer better value for money than xx number of manufactures then yeh, sure i'll buy it.
It really make me laugh when people come out saying I HATE DELL blah blah blah. If there selling something for half the price of their competiors are you going to go out and pay double for a device that you can get for half the price with Dell ?? I know i certainly wouldnt.

I've bought several Axims and have had several laptops from Dell. Due to their lousy support my latest PDA was by someone else. My last laptop was from Compaq. I am done with Dell. Your customer support sucks even if your products are good.
I can understand why someone might be disappointed that a company decides to stop producing a product that they like, but to vow to never buy another product from that company for that reason just doesn't make sense. You bought a product that you liked and worked well for you; that doesn't mean that the company owes you to keep producing that product in its current or future versions. No company is going to continue selling a product without adequate demand. Period. The PPC market continues to shrink, maybe to be absorbed into the smart-phone and UMPC markets. Not everyone will be pleased by this, but it's no reason to hate on Dell.
I can see why Dell is pulling out the pda market.
Which is fine, the company got to make money instead of losing.
But, Dell's customer support is slipping.
Unless Dell re-org on customer service, they're going lose more than just unhappy Axim users.
Also, I don't mind Dell out source their customer support (away from United States), if it saves them lots of money that's fine, but some of them don't speak very good English, and at times I feel they have no idea what they support-they just read of the Q and A from their screen.
