Update

Because of the flaw with this patch. I was notified that the patch would be removed from the FTP server. I am awaiting an official announcement in writing now.
Official Word from Dell Officials:
--First, nothing is wrong with the fix itself. It accomplishes what we wanted.
--Unfortunately, we are getting reports that some people with PPC02 have discovered a way to hack into the fix and obtain an unlicensed upgrade to PPC03.
--We are pulling the fix temporarily and will provide a more targeted distribution via of it to the customers who were truly affected by our PPC03 performance issue. As planned, we will begin proactively mailing a CD version of the fix beginning within two to three weeks.

Thanks for taking care of this. We are all awaiting the news of its real release. Hopefully they will still let it be downloaded instead of mailing new CDs for those of us with cable connections! ;-) Thanks again,
James

The CD will still be required for those who have PPC 2002. There are other items on the CD that you will want to have.

For one, there will be two CD's from I've read. VirusScan will be included as will other updates to software included before. It seems Dell wants to make us feel like we are getting value out of the purchase. I have not seen a complete list of software included, but I would assume its more than just AS 3.7. ;)

I heard that there is McAffee or something on the second CD... We will see what Dell does.

Thanks,
James

On the newsgroups, but I believe Chris had something on it on his review of WM 2003.

Cagey,

How much do you know about the virus scan? How much system resources does it take up? Worth it?

Peace,
James

IMO, its not really needed. There really aren't that many virus programs out there. BUT, in the next year with smartphones taking off, we'll see more virus warnings. If you download programs to your Axim, you could get burned.

I ordered the upgrade and I'll wait. But Pirating? Dell put it on a public accessable FTP server for God's sake. It's not like someone hacked a password to a private area or something. If nothing else, Dell got some free BETA testing. Personally I'm not that brave. I depend on my Ax too much right now.
