Yup, *very* familiar to me, too. I had a whole closet full of old devices, peripherals, etc. Finally had to clean it out because we got new carpeting. I now have several boxes/storage totes full of cables & power cords that I have no idea what they go to...
generally, i don't like devices that charge off off usb. for the following reasons:
A: sucks the battery life right outta your tablet/laptop/umpc/other mobile computer
B: i have had several devices burn out USB controllers
The benefits of charging via USB are:
USB cables are common, can't find the one that came with the device, just use another one
With a common port, you can find any number of 3rd party alternatives that will supply power to a USB port.
If your phone is dead and you NEED it now, a laptop can sacrifice a few MAH to get the phone going at least for a little bit

I tend to over-organize..... all my cables are in freezer-type baggies and labeled and in plastic shoe boxes by category of device....... on shelves in the closet.
Most of "my things" I can locate within a few minutes......:)
