Chris' HTC Touch Impressions

Since I am getting ready to rip the old simm card out and put it back into the Palm Treo 750, I thought this would be a good time to share my impressions of the HTC Touch after a week in a half of use as my primary device.

I started my use of the HTC Touch with one of my typical unboxings on youtube. During this video, a true unboxing, I was simply amazed at how small this thing is. It's apparent in the video that I was taken by surprise. I knew it was small, but not that small. One of the comment I received on the video summed it up perfectly, " when u said it was small for the first time i was like ok yea its small but when u put it up to the razr i was like OMG OMG it is very small "

The HTC Touch feels like the HP iPaq 4155 or 1900 series Pocket PC, but it's got a phone packed into that small body. This small size comes with a definite price though. To get this thing so small, HTC had to leave something that was seen as a bonus a couple years ago and now seems to be a necessity, a keyboard. Recent HTC devices have had great slide out keyboards, but this one has no room and you have to rely on that itty bitty on screen keyboard. (which is horrible) As a solution, I would think that Tengo would be a great solution, but I would really like to have seen HTC add in a nice thumbable on screen keyboard with the Touch.

If you are more of a PPC user and prefer PDA 1st, phone 2nd, then this phone would be a great addition to your gadget bag. If you are a heavy texter or emailer, I can not recommend the Touch, the data entry is just too painful at this time.

I am very impressed with the top level implementation of the touch gesturing, etc. I am sure the next coming of this device or one that utilizes the same technology with a better data entry will turn many heads. I like seeing how HTC is on the attack with emerging technologies and hope to see more things like this.

The Shift will come out... don't you go worrying about that. HTC doesn't know what vaporware means. :)

ps. I've played with the Shift and it's SLICKER THAN, well... it's bada$$.

YEAH!!! Bozz...the SHift! the Shift! OOPS! I mean...I can't wait!!! I hope Verizscum dosen't take over the world and buy HTC to cripple it's cool devices

Wow ... that really is tiny! Soon as I saw it next to the RAZR I wondered how easy it would be to lose the thing!

I am planning to get this thing, only if it didn't cost $550.
I am hoping that someone will eventually get this and provide discount with contract.

Thanks Chris, also I noticed another post with the video, sure, it is pretty small, but size comparison is about all you can do when you put it next to RAZR. That thing is just anything but functional! :)
