yes, it's pricy... it doesn't support alot of things that I need it to support, but I think that because of the "iSheep" it will be a huge success in the youth market. Kids ages 14-25 are going to be all over this phone. This generation don't know or need exchange server capabilities... They need a camera, an IM client, a music player, and a phone. This is the Holy Grail for those kids. I am not categorizing everyone in that bracket, but I am sure numbers will support that it's most of them.
Yup ... that's about the size of it. I think a number of us have missed the point here. The iPhone isn't even attempting to compete with PocketPC - it's an upgrade from an iPod to a device that now lets you have an iPod on steroids along with a phone. They'll sell millions of 'em.

It's interesting, too... even my sixty-something, gadget- and technology-phobic father has taken notice and was asking my opinion. This gave me pause, as this has never happened before. Ever. And it got me thinking.

My first defense - my Axim does so much more on so many levels. Internet, e-mail, GPS etc. Even more so (by comparison) Pocket PC phone or Palm phone or Blackberry. Yet - they aren't "Apple simple." The iPhone, while limited in may ways in the eyes of the gadget-savvy, is an exceptionally approachable and appealing step for those that aren't (and even some that are) - particularly those who took a cautious first step with iPods.

I think the cool thing about this phenomenon is that we all may benefit from the fallout of what becomes a broadly accepted convergence (at a very basic level at least) device. Until now the tech savvy have had their Treos and other smart phones and the (largely) business folks have had their Blackberries... while the general consumer hasn't seen the value or has been intimidated by the perceived complexity. That may all change with this...

» The iPhone will be compatible with Microsoft Exchange, after all | All about Microsoft | ZDNet.com

Apple’s iPhone is going to be compatible with Microsoft Exchange Server, after all.

Earlier this month, a number of articles and analyst reports claimed that Apple’s iPhone would not be compatible with Exchange Server, Research in Motion’s Blackberry servers and Motorola’s Good Technology e-mail servers.

While I can’t speak to Apple’s plans regarding Blackberry and Good, my sources are saying Apple can and will make the iPhone compatible with Exchange Server.

Here’s what I’m hearing: Apple will announce this week — possibly as soon as June 27 — that it has licensed the Exchange ActiveSync licensing protocol. Via the licensing arrangement, Apple iPhone users will be able to connect to Exchange Server and make use of its wireless messaging and synchronization capabilities.
So perhaps it might not be completely useless in a corp market.. but I can't see how it will be anything other that a gimmick from a usability standpoint in a corp environment.
