WiFiFoFum - New Version

wifi WiFiFoFum is a wireless network scanner that will give you a variety of information about available networks (network type, WEP, channel used, SSID, MAC address, signal strength and more)

Free for individuals, the "splash screen disappears after registering.

This is the latest version of WiFiFoFum - the best WiFi scanner and war driving software for Pocket PC 2003 and Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC and Smartphone editions.

There is a PC msi installer which will install WiFiFoFum and the Compact Framework 2.0 SP2 into your ActiveSync so you can install and uninstall from your device as you please. Alternatively you can use the CAB version of WiFiFoFum which you can install directly on your device, however you will need to make sure you also have CF 2.0 installed aswell. WM6 has CF 2.0 SP2 built in so it won't be installed again onto WM6 devices.
Features:

  • List view showing information such was WEP, SSID, MAC, signal strength(RSSI), latitude, longitude and location precision (HDOP)
  • Radar view conveys distance to access points
  • Save, load and merge XML files
  • Export to Google Earth (KLM), text, Wi-scan, Tom Tom POI, MemoryMap and Netstumbler (ns1) formats
  • Choose between Pocket PC 2003 toolbar or WM5 soft button look and feel
  • Aggressive scanning mode to find even more access points
  • New network found pop up blocker
  • Supports all wired and bluetooth GPS devices that use the NMEA protocol
  • Compatible with every WiFi card and Pocket PC device available (C-Guys SD card users need to use the NDIS compatible driver)
  • Scan filters for WEP and ad hoc networks

I'm afraid I have to disagree... WiFiFoFum was great in the beginning, but now it is slow, taking almoost 30 seconds or longer to load on my device... and I have an additional 64MB or RAM to call on! Also, the distance conveyed on the radar to various acces points was never very accurate. It didn't help that the Radar was not animated either, to convey the impression it was actually doing something. There is the total lack of any indication that it recognized when your WiFi was even activated to consider as well... Finally, it would save these XML file even when you selected "no" at the exit dialog. In short, it went from a good, if marginally usefull program to an overall useless one.
