Copy & Paste on the iPhone?

pic There was a cool video on kottke.org about a potential new iPhone feature on how a copy and paste feature might work on the iPhone. As cool as it was, what was even better was a lengthy discussion about how to implement this on kottke.org last month.  It begs the question: "Did Steve Jobs make a huge blunder by not allowing 3rd party developers to write applications for the iPhone?".  I think he did and it will eventually come back and bite Apple in the backside.  Web applications will be good, no, they will be excellent, but the lost creativity from having a closed system is almost sinful.

observations beg the question: how are new capabilities going to get added to the iPhone? A bunch of you are either interaction/interface designers or otherwise clever folks...how would you add a feature like a clipboard to the iPhone?
